Here we go again! Monkey doll named for Obama called racist (VIDEO)
Monkey doll named for Obama called racist

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah company offering online a sock monkey named for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says it didn't mean to anger anyone with a "cute and cuddly" toy that some are calling racist.

"We simply made a casual and affectionate observation one night, and a charming association between a candidate and a toy we had when we were little," according to a statement issued Saturday by Sock Obama LLC.

Jeanetta Williams, president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, called the toy "pure racism at its extreme."

4. Utah blurs the line between racism and stupidity...

...I used to go to Salt Lake City in the 70s/80s to visit my grandmother. We always tuned in to hear a talk show by a woman named "Laura" (not, of course, the infamous "Dr." Laura) a popular talk show personality who gave the following quotes:

--------

Caller #1: Laura, you're dumb, D-U-M, dumb.

Caller #2: Laura, that last woman who called you didn't even know how to spell "dumb."

Laura: What?

Caller #2: She didn't even spell it right. She said you're dumb, D-U-M.

Laura: Oh yes... We add another M, don't we?
---------

(doing a live spot for a local salon -- name changed)

Laura: Ladies, I don't know where you get your hair done, but I was at Sally's Beauty Salon the other day, and I have to tell you, they give the best blowjobs there...

---------

Laura: That Carter... I'd just like to slit his throat from ear to ear and watch the blood flow.

---------

One day, Laura suddenly departed from the airwaves without explanation. My grandmother had to field several calls from people trying to find out why and assuming it was due to one of her phoned in reports.

Granted, these are all old examples, but you can see how the sock monkey issue might not surprise the locals.

7. I thought that was implied by the role of my grandmother in those stories.

Maybe you didn't read them.

10. You lie
You say: "But every Obama supporter here was glad to see this.."

Name one Obama supporter that praised that damned thing. Stop picking fights and get on board or go somewhere else.

The self-admitted and the oblivious. I always forgive the self-admitted ones. :hi:

18. Get on board?
Meaning what? Don't point out the sexism of attacks on Hillary?

Anyone not condemning the sexism of a Hillary nutcracker has missed the boat IMHO.

20. Don't play dense
You know very well what that poster is up to.

I challenge you to find one Obama supporter that was glad for that item. Or better yet, prove that ALL of us were glad for it.

This is what I was challenging and you know it.

25. I posted in the other thread my opinion on that one.
Yes, the Hillary nutcracker was sexist.

I also laughed when I saw it. I am a woman, I am a feminist, I was a Hillary supporter, but it tickled my funny bone. It reminded me of the Bond villianess Xania Onatopp crushing men to death with her thighs.

Despite its sexist implications, the men who say that they "cross their legs" when they see Hillary and the people who made a Hillary nutcracker are demonstrating their fear of a powerful woman. They are implying that she is more powerful than they are -- they are actually giving her power over them. However, I don't find anything funny in comparing women to cats ("catfight", "the claws came out", etc).

Comparing another human being to an animal is inherently demeaning and disempowering, and it's meant to be.
