How my 9 year old nephew has changed due to Barack Obama....
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 07:13 PM by FrenchieCat
My 9 year old nephew is the cutest guy that one could ever see. So cute throughout his life that people have always assumed that he was a girl (cause his hair is real long and curly and wears it in pony tail and such) even as he was wearing real little boy clothes and everything. He even has this little low hoarse voice that screams out "guy"! They would always say "she" to me when complimenting me on how cute he was.

He just made nine this mid May.

So I don't get to see him as often as I would like.

When I first called him and invited him to go to the movies with me and my daughters yesterday, he said....OK, but I've got a surprise for you guys.

"What is it?", one of my daughters asked him over the phone.

"I did something different to my hair", he hinted.

"What did you do? Braid it? Cut off your ponytail?"

"Nope", he said.

My 18 year old guessed, "did you Obama it?"

"Yep"....he said. "Tuesday, I got my hair cut. I have the same hair as Obama."

"Do you like it?", My girl asked.

"Yep. It's cool, especially when its hot."

So we picked him up from his house and were on the way to the movies.

I stopped needing some gas.

I was looking for the cheapest gas, as in the California Bay Area, Regular ranges from $4.49 to $4.79 depending on the station. So I was mentioning the price of gas, and one of my daughters said...."well in Europe, gas is like 11 dollars a liter!"

My nephew chimed in....."well in Iraq, gas is like .12 cents a gallon!"

We all had a good laugh at that one.

Later I asked my nephew, "how do you like that Obama guy?"

My nephew responded, "I like him a lot. Now that McCain guy, I heard he wanted to send my whole school to war."

Too bad I had just finished taking a swallow out of my can of Diet Caffeine Free Coke.....cause I made a mess.

PS. The ironic beauty of it is, my little nephew is an African American, and is growing up without a father in the home....and yet, he may be more in tune politically than some of those Hard working LIVs who actually vote. I believe that Barack Obama is to blame for this, and for that I say, Thank you, Barack. You are affecting this nation and the world in ways that have yet to be discovered.

Here's a pic when he was much younger.....

I have only raised girls, so I have not clue as to what that all means.

I keep running this scene in my head these past months. Parent's come home from work and the kids are watching tv. Parent's say "Did you finish your homework? No? Go back to the kitchen table and get it done. Don't you want to be president someday like President Obama?!"

18. McCain wanting to be in Iraq for 100 years might just send his school
to war.......at least those who might end up enlisting.

Seems to me like he in fact "got it".

28. Seems like a big leap
"I heard he wants to send my whole school to war."

If his (presumably) public schol is teaching critical thinking, I think it would be prudent to ask, "who did you hear this from?" "your WHOLE school?" "when doea he want to send them to war? now?"

Also, did McCain actually say he _wants_ to be in Iraq for 100 years? I think you may actually be misquoting, but--whatever.

It's a fine thing to post cute stories about kids, but to imply that they are politally astute because of some of those cute things they say, is a bit of a stretch.

Here's the youtube of it:

Think about this. Some of those that are fighting in Iraq right now were 10 when Bush was running for president.

Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 08:06 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
He says that it is ok to stay in Iraq 100 years because we have sustained a presence in Japan. What he fails to realize is that Japan and Germany were not engulfed in civil war.

Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 08:12 PM by FrenchieCat
let me say this about that......First of all, yes, McCain said that he didn't mind how long it would take to win, and that if it would take 100 years, or 10,000 years, that would be ok.

McCain Tries to Backtrack on 100 Years of War

John McCain has finally gone to the press and backtracked on his quote that he would comfortable with a 100-year-long American presence in Iraq, saying that he "was taken out context -- wildly."

Uh, actually no. Our very own David Corn was at the event where McCain made the 100 years comment, and asked the candidate about it afterward. Check the link. McCain can't weasel out of this one.
http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/02/7276_mccain_tries_to.html

Now, if you want to argue with Motherjones, my 9 year old nephew and my own ears, then go right ahead, cause the next question would be, whose side are you on?

Next-- my nephew was making a wisecrack. I'm sure he has said this before, and knew exactly the reaction he would get. He may have been young on that pic, but many 9 year olds obviously know more about what John McCain and the implication than you do.

You obviously haven't seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQJ9Xp0xxU
(see at 2:34)

It appears that my 9 year old nephew may have a more cutting edge political wit than you do.

37. A 9 year old is more than capable of deliberate hyperbole to make a point.
But unfortunately, by the time this boy is of draft age, McCain could have this nation in even worse straits than Bush.

And this boy is DEFINITELY more astute than the 30% of the voters who still support Bush.

45. not only in Iraq for 100 years,
but also:

Sen. John McCain told a crowd of supporters on Sunday, "It's a tough war we're in. It's not going to be over right away. There's going to be other wars." Offering more of his increasingly bleak "straight talk," he repeated the claim: "I'm sorry to tell you, there's going to be other wars. We will never surrender but there will be other wars."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/27/mccain-warns-there-will_n_83459.html

"I'M SORRY TO TELL YOU, THERE'S GOING TO BE OTHER WARS."
can't get much clearer than that.

64. I really hate to be rainon a cute story...
and it is a darling story :)
But it's a mere 1.45€ per liter here (which is around 5 usd a gallon).
I know people like to bitch about the price of fuel here (and rightly so) but most of that is taxes that goes to roads and infrastructure (at least in theory.)

unlike the 18c a gallon back home that goes towards the roads... and only just barely.

Even before I moved here (no, not really by choice, but it might be if I did it now) I have always said i'd pay the european price as long as the tax benefit of public transport , roads, et al came with it.
