My son got a letter from Barack Obama today.

He sent a picture similar to the one in my avatar, but with the words 'go Obama go!' at the top to the campaign headquarters a few weeks ago. He is so excited about this letter. :)

35. To consider what it is to walk in another's shoes.
To consider what it is to walk in another's skin.

Life is much different when you consider such things. Imagine if we all did. Imagine.

5. He's five.
He saw the envelope and said "What!? Obama! He sent me a letter! Wow! I can't wait to tell my teacher, she loves Obama!"

He doesn't understand why I can't just call the Obama family and ask the girls over for a play date.

7. I know what you mean...
...my daughter doesn't understand why I don't call everyone at The News Hour to come and babysit for her when I go out.

This is sooooo exciting for your son - he's got a mentor at the age of 5 - love it!

...and she sent my daughter autographed photos of herself, Ray Suarez (her favorite) and Jim Leher. As soon as we opened them my daughter asked if she could have Gwen Ifill, Jeffrey Brown and Margaret Warner too!

10. There's a lot to be said for having children in the White House,
IMHO, and I hope lots of parents will see what I see about it.

Having someone who can look at his own children and see what SCOTUS decisions, educational/economic/environmental/energy legislation and foreign policy will mean to their futures is an ENORMOUS plus, IMHO.

31. Yes, because they're the reason for
leaving a better Planet than we found it. As Obama said in his Father's Day talk..

"And what I’ve realized is that life doesn’t count for much unless you’re willing to do your small part to leave our children – all of our children – a better world. Even if it’s difficult. Even if the work seems great. Even if we don’t get very far in our lifetime."

46. I dunno
It shouldn't be necessary to have small children to have the foresight and compassion to try and make wise decisions. I will agree that being a parent DOES help. Any parent should be thinking about their children's future even if they are over 21, and then there are the grandchildren to consider. I have a four year old daughter, but I don't think my mother is any less worried about our future because I am grown...

12. I did :)
I was an invisible rec. I didn't see the picture though! What an adorable boy! He must look so different with his hair cut.
I wonder if a lot of kids are cutting their hair now. I noticed how you wrote that he said he cut it 'Obama style'. I feel so cut off now that I've moved to Maine. I used to live in the city. Now I've moved to one of the whitest states in the country. I miss my friends. I miss the culture. (sorry to digress here)

President Obama gets it. A leader with empathy is exactly what this country needs right now. Can't wait for this election to be over, so he can get to work.

From now on, I am going to refer to him as President Obama. Can't wait till January!

37. Cool beans!
I'm not certain, but there is a very good chance your son's letter will be in Obama's library someday. I believe Obama will create a election campaign file and your son's letter would be cataloged in with every other bit of history.

My little sister wrote LBJ when she was in grade school, and forty years later on a visit to his library, she jokingly asked about her letter. An attendant dashed back into the dark catacombs and found the person who knew where to look. Turns out my sister was a prolific writer; they found two of her letters!

Huzzah! Your son did good!

43. Awe. Some.
Love our candidate. Getting young people motivated to participate is the best thing we could possibly do for our Democracy. It's been a breath of fresh air meeting kids who can't wait to turn 18 so they can vote. That's something I can't say I've seen before, and what a welcome development it is.

Thanks for sharing...all the best to you and yours. :)
