Let me see if I've got this straight. Michelle Obama was born on Chicago's South Shore ...
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 04:58 PM by 11 Bravo
the daughter of a city employee and a secretary. She worked hard in High School, and obtained admission to Princeton University where she helped to re-write the French curriculum in order to bring it more into line with the real world. Upon graduation she applied to, and was accepted to Harvard Law School, where she obtained her JD. She met a young single man whom she married and bore him two beautiful daughters. They remain together today, and are obviously very much in love.

Cindy McCain was born rich, grew up rich, and when Daddy's money got her admitted into USC, she was a cheerleader. She inherited millions of dollars. She met a married man, and committed adultery with him in so skillful a fashion that he left his wife, who had been disfigured in an automobile accident. She then founded a charity, became addicted to pain killers, and stole drugs from her own charity. She fired the employee who discovered her theft. She remains married to her husband, although he has been overheard referring to her as a "cunt".

And the fucking Republicans want to make MICHELLE an issue? Bring it on, assholes!

When she says she has been disappointed in America, all I can say is, "So am I!!"

It doesn't mean you aren't patriotic, it just means you can see the inequity and the hypocrisy in everything from how appearances are all that matter in the USA, to our fighting in Iraq so they can have our lifestyle!!

8. You omit some damning facts about Michele.
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 04:36 PM by Jackpine Radical
1) She's black
2) She's smart as hell, intellectually a worthy mate to her husband (as was Hillary, let me hasten to hadd. And we all witnessed how she was vilified for her open and indecent display of brains in the Clinton years).
3) She's the DEMOCRATIC First lady-in-waiting.

(I think it's South Side, not South Shore.)

And let me add that if Obama is elected, it will make me really proud of my country for the first time in my adult life.
I count my adult life as having begun in July 1967, when I set foot on the tarmac at Pleiku with orders for infantry duty with the 1st Cav.

So I know what 11 Bravo means.

15. The actual community area where she grew up is called the South Shore. The South Side ...
as it is commonly referred to encompasses South Shore and several other community areas. More importantly, HOOAAH, and welcome home. (I spent a little time in the A Shau myself in the early '70s.)

44. 'Scuse me Jack... a littel correction..
"South Shore" is a neighborhood on Chicago's south side.

There's lotsa neighborhoods on south side, just like north side
has lotsa neighborhoods..

South Shore has certain particularities.. it has a beach, which made it
a goal for high schoolers to skip out on afternoon class, and ride
bus to the beach..

I was a southsider too, back in the day, before I moved to PA.
I didn't live in South Shore, tho...

"American Voluntary Medical Team and adoption
In 1988, inspired by a vacation visit to substandard medical facilities on Truk Lagoon,<11> Cindy McCain founded the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT).<1> It was a non-profit organization that organized trips for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide MASH-like emergency medical care to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world areas such as Micronesia, Vietnam (before relations were normalized between them and the U.S.<11>), Kuwait (arriving five days after the conclusion of the Gulf War<11>), Iraq, Nicaragua, India, Bangladesh and El Salvador.<7><26><27><28><29> She led 55 of these missions over the next seven years,<10> with each being of at least two weeks' duration.<29> AVMT also supplied treatment to poor sick children around the world.<30>"

The only kind they want to hear about, that is. Little platinum-headed bimbo Cindy: all it takes is the ability to look adoringly at a dottering old husband and a big pocketbook. The recipe to success!

She can be condemned for the rest (and there's more than enough to be going on with) but I can tell you from personal experiance how easy it is to get hooked on painkillers and once you are, you'll beg, borrow and steal for them, including stealing them from your own charity.

48. So she was rich/ Big deal . She also is a special needs teacher and has founded many charities and
engages in hands on work with disabled children. Her college thesis was on working with movement in disabled kids. She adopted her then disabled child Bridget from Mother Theresa's orphanage in Burma. She currently works with operation "smile".And just got back from Vietnam where she was very "unclamorously " helping kids with cleft palates. She took over her fathers business when he died and doubled its profits . She is a businesswomen a noted acumen. She has always kept her family assets and McCain's' separate. She is a pilot and race car driver. She admits to her addiction to painkillers and publicly talks about it as a necessity for her treatment. She was only 24 years old when she met the then separated much older, McCain, who already had a rep as a ladies man.She now is quietly facing the fact that she will soon have two son's serving in Iraq.

Neither Michelle Obama nor Cindy McCain deserve to be eviscerated in such a a nasty manner because their husbands are running for president.

It does not reflect well on any of us as Democrats when we attack the wife of the opposition with malicious statements. It is tantamount to giving similar permission to such attacks on Michelle. That fact that Michelle Obama is entitled to respect does not mean that Cindy Mccain is entitled to any less respect as a person.

55. how many of Michelle's neighbors in SouthSide Chicago
could have stolen pain killers and not have gone to jail? How many would be in rehab instead of jail? It's a double standard...

We had Noel Bush have drug problems, get arrested and then not go to jail. We have so many of our prisons chock full of African American non-violent drug offenders. So I think Cindy's drug use is an issue-- at least, in terms of fairness in sentencing.

Cindy McCain Presses Obama Patriotism Case
June 18, 2008 4:46 PM

ABC News' Ed O'Keefe Reports: Laura Bush may be ready to give Michelle Obama the benefit of the doubt when it comes to her patriotism but Cindy McCain may not.

"I don't know why she said what she said," Mrs. McCain explains in an interview with ABC News' Kate Snow airing on "Good Morning America" Thursday. "Everyone has their own experience. I don't know why she said what she said, all I know is that I have always been proud of my country."

WATCH "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" THURSDAY ON ABC TO SEE KATE SNOW'S INTERVIEW WITH CINDY MCCAIN.

Snow asked McCain if she was "insulted when Michelle Obama said she was proud of her country for the first time", referencing remarks Obama made at a Wisconsin rally during her husband's fight for the Democratic presidential nomination against Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of country not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change," Mrs. Obama told the Madison crowd, sparking outrage from conservative critics and fodder for an online ad produced by the Republican party in Tennessee.

In a rare move, Mrs. McCain also challenged Mrs. Obama's remark, saying as she introduced her husband at a rally shortly after Obama's remarks, "I'm proud of my country, I don't know if you heard those words earlier. I'm very proud of my country."

In subsequent interviews, Obama attempted to clarify her remarks -- something she did again in her appearance as a co-host of ABC's daytime talk show "The View".

Obama insisted she is "proud of my country, without a doubt," going on to explain "I'm a girl who grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Chicago and let me tell you, of course I'm proud. What I was talking about is pride in the political process."

Patriotism might not be the only skirmish between the potential first spouses this election year. In the interview airing on "Good Morning America" Thursday, McCain didn't shy away from political questions.

72. Thanks. I tend to ignore bullshit "Link" demands, particularly in regard ...
to matters so well documented. But you pretty much shot down this particular line of attack.

73. That is an attack ? I guess everything is considered at "attack" then.
I give up. it is classless of either side to post derisve comments about the spouses.

69. Here:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/02/mccain-vs-obama.html

ABC News' Jennifer Parker, Bret Hovell and Sunlen Miller Report: Michelle Obama, the wife of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Wednesday attempted to clarify remarks she made Tuesday about being proud of the country.

Michelle Obama has been criticized for the comments, with some suggesting her remarks were unpatriotic.

Campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Monday, Michelle Obama said, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

In a rare move, Cindy McCain, wife of the Arizona senator, took on Michelle Obama's comment Tuesday as she introduced her husband at a rally. "I'm proud of my country, I don't know if you heard those words earlier. I'm very proud of my country," she said.

The Arizona senator also made a subtle dig at Michelle Obama's comments during his victory speech Tuesday night.

"I have never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I haven't been proud of the privilege" of being an American, McCain said in Columbus, Ohio.

67. I really agree with you on this. These kinds
of personal attacks on candidates' spouses, kids and relatives when they are not relevant to political policy should be off limits. At the same time, McCain's despicable comments regarding his wife are fair game insofar as they attest to his character and are evidence of what seems to be a pretty deeply-rooted misogyny. Likewise how he treated his first wife would seem to be relevant, at least insofar as it also seems to suggest that women's rights and women's concerns are not going to be at the top of his agenda ( or will be although ways progressives don't want). Thanks.

66.  You left out that cindy is also recovering from a stoke but then it probably doesn't matter to you.
Just like the fact that she is a special needs teacher who wrote her thesis on "movement with disabled children " and continues to work with disabled children or that she will have two sons in Iraq . This really is GOP type behavior and should be beneath anyone who supports the Democratic Party.

Why don't you do something constructive like attack McCain's lack of a Health Plan?

71. If you deny that Cindy has issued several thinly veiled attacks on Michelle's patriotism ...
then you are either uninformed or disingenuous. In either case, I lack both the time and the inclination to go back and forth with you over a matter which can not be seriously in dispute. The Repugs wish to make Michelle Obama a campaign issue. O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, and a variety of GOP Senators and Reps have all taken shots at her. Cindy Lou did the same, albeit in a debutante, heiress fashion, which has apparently disarmed you. You prefer to turn the other cheek, and that's certainly your prerogative. However, we adopted the same tactic in 2004 and now Roberts and Alito sit on the Supreme Court.

74. I find your slams about "debutante heiress"uncalled for especially in the light of many of our
Democratic Debutante heiress icons. Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy and Ethel Skakal Kennedy come to mind. Add Theresa Heinz Kerry to the more contemporary group. And I certainly have never argued for "turning the other cheek" . I have roundly condemned our Congress for being weenies and I do not believe in the "reaching across the aisle " tactic currently being espoused. But I do not believe in attacking spouses and family members. Doing so only reduces us to the level of the worst of the GOP and implies we have nothing of substance with witch to attack the opposition. I suggest the disingenuous and lack of information does not rest with me.

76. I'll take my leave of you now.
You and Cindy Lou can get a room and she can explain to you that while it is proper for her to impugn Michelle Obama's patriotism, it is just plain wrong to bring into focus any aspect of her own checkered past. And if this moves you to offer up yet another tedious homily on the need to "fight fair", save it. We fought fair in '00 and '04. How'd that work out? Millions of Americans thought that Al Gore was a serial liar, John Kerry didn't deserve his combat decorations, and Teresa Heinz Kerry hated America. These attacks worked out just fine for the GOP, as they were issued on behalf of a chicken-shit, draft-dodging, drunk. Now, since it worked so well before, we will hear that Michelle Obama also hates America. And, oh yeah, Barack Obama is a Muslim. God forbid that we don't fight fair. Lady, I've got two sons, 15 and 12, and if John McCain gets elected there is a very real possibility that they will eventually be fed into the meat-grinder which McCain wants to keep running for another 100 years. To avoid that, I am willing to not only call out Cindy on her former crimes, I will also plant drugs in her limo and then call the AP. And if that offends your tender sensibilities, tough shit.

77. Wow. Perhaps you could get some help for your problem? You have a completely irrational
hatred of a candidates wife and and equally segued perception of another . Neither of these women are saints and neither are running for office or are responsible for the fate of your sons. Take out your angst on John Mccain. He is the opposition.
