Not good Obama .. :(
Man, why didnt Obama fight this telco immunity thing; it makes me sick to my stomach. I fight for him every day, every day i convince people to be for Obama, everyday i try to help some how. I call, donate money (what little i have), everything for the cause. And WTF is this?

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/davidjacobitz/gG5hzy

Its on the Obama blog now too,

Obama really needs to step up and fight for this.. i will continue to support him; however i will no longer donate or spend time if he dose not fight immunity.

1. What if Obama votes for an amendment removing retroactive immunity,
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 11:16 PM by Eric J in MN
...the amendment fails, and then Obama votes for the whole bill which includes retroactive immunity?

(my prediction of what he'll do next week)

5. He's got far more important matters to address like Iraq and the economy
Telecom immunity is not a big concern for the vast majority of US voters

7. That swings both ways.
Obama could vote against the FISA bill, and most Americans wouldn't care.

4. I have nothing to base this on - so it may be wishful thinking.
Obama has a perilous tightrope to walk - worse than any other dem candidate has had to do. He has to play his hand so that he gets the most votes to end this nightmare. He is smart. I think he knows what he is doing. He said he would fight the immunity. But he has to be careful that he does not give the smearing media anything with which to destroy his campaign. If you want this country to change, try to understand what he has to overcome.

Maybe this is naive - maybe it is not. But I know he only wants the best for the country, but he still has to get to where it can be implemented.

8. Obama failed to act like a leader on this issue
Being a Constitutional lawyer, he should smell fascism immediately and granting Telecoms retroactive immunity for breaking the law is promoting fascism.

29. I have to agree with you one this one
You'd think he would have had little trouble convincing the public that voting against this bill is the right thing to do. He could have taken a cue from Kucinich.

9. Maybe communicate this directly to Obama on his campaign or Senate site
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 11:25 PM by ProSense
Somehow these "I will no longer donate or support Obama" pronouncements don't sit right.

My thinking is that saying, at this point, that Obama doesn't get your donations or support is equivalent to not caring if McCain wins.

Obama could fight for it, vote against it and it still could pass.

Choice: Obama or McCain.

Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 11:29 PM by Catherina
but essentially I agree with him and hope Obama takes notice and doesn't dismiss the comments.

He must fight this. It's not his most crucial test but it's a defining test at a crucial moment for him.

I have faith he'll respond in a way that relieves any doubts over the next few days. We spoke, he'll listen.

11. I guess my thoughts at this point are, lets get Obama into the WH and then....
take it from there! We can all stress big time over telco immunity, but it won't do us much good... We obviously need an Obama Presidency, and then we can let him know what we expect of him at that point.

26. Yeah, well we PAWNS are tired of being sacrificed.
I am an Obama supporter and a long time DUer.

The money I was going to donate to Obama went
to ACT BLUE yesterday, to put towards letting
the House and Senate know how important our
4th amendment rights are to me.

If Obama votes on a final bill that includes
immunity, I will not be giving him money.

I know he will not miss my drops in the bucket,
but I have my "deal breakers" too.

I have no deal breakers whe it is between having a Democrat or Republican.

If he doesn't get elected because of an Oct. surprise blamed on Democrats & FISA we are screwed. These next few months are perilous. I don't want a candidate who would blow it.

I am a realist.

28. It's called "be the President" mode. He could criminally prosecute them once he becomes President.
It's political, it's not straight forward, and I don't like it if that's really what he's thinking. But I'm sure FDR did things around election time that left Democrats scratching their heads.
