Obama widens lead on McCain - Double-digit leads in two major polls
http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/1029495.html

"Two national polls out Friday have catapulted Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama into a double-digit lead over GOP rival John McCain.

A poll of 896 registered voters taken Wednesday and Thursday for Newsweek gave Obama a 51 percent to 36 percent lead. The margin of error was plus or minus four percentage points.

A Harris Poll of 2,327 adults surveyed online June 5-13 gave Obama a 44 percent to 33 percent edge. Because it was taken from people who agreed to participate, no margin of error was given.

The results appear to reflect the "bounce" that observers have been anticipating since the Democrat clinched his party's nomination early this month.

The previous Newsweek poll, a May survey showing Obama and McCain tied at 46 percent, came while Obama and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton were competing for the nomination."

5. Well, duh
The previous Newsweek poll, a May survey showing Obama and McCain tied at 46 percent, came while Obama and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton were competing for the nomination.

This is EXACTLY why I've said to ignore any head-to-head polling until BOTH parties have a presumptive nominee. Now that Dem voters no longer have a subconscious "choice" between Clinton and Obama, we're getting more realistic numbers. But even then, temper your joy with perspective--always remember that polls give you snapshots, not "the big picture."

6. I kept that this election was not close. However, the Newsweek poll should have a larger sample size
I'd like to see more polls released with healthier samples before I get too excited. The polls are still generally flawed precisely because they only give snapshot indications of what's going on.

7. Why do you think they brought in Karl Rove?
The slime is about to begin and they will stop at nothing. Be prepared. When you read a flame producing thread here remember how easy it is to get a political psychologist to sit, drink coffee and join web discussions. The input doesn't have to be blatant but just a little divisive.
