This was an e-mail I rec'd, and if you want to read it, I'll PM you.

I hate when people post e-mails like this one, but was incensed when I read it.

Again, my apologies.

Thanks, DU.

1. I wonder if you asked her if she knows how she's being played, would she care?

6. What's even stranger is she thinks it's perfectly okay, except
one para. I think I'll have to go through it with a fine tooth comb and educate her.
This is a high school friend, a rethug, and she thinks this is acceptable?

3. I love how they use other peoples sacrifice to make them seem so much more holier than thou.
That IS disgusting.

Oh Christ, I had also missed " before we elect a muslim as President of the United States". Fucking idiot. Before it was pity and disgust, but the "before we elect a muslim who stayed in that church for twenty years" just made me lose the pity.

5. Hate-filled screed...
I'm curious how her Pastor (or whatever "Xian" religious figure she recognizes) would say upon receiving this from her? Would she become unnerved if told you were going to forward it (from her) to ask?

8. She doesn't recognize any religious figure, like me. Not a church-going
person, but she's not a bad person either. Seems misinformed, doesn't she.

11. I have at least one work colleague like that...
a seemingly nice woman who has lived a tough life, but was taken in by the nasty "Obama is a Muslim" (or member of Al Quaida) emails and forwarded it around to many in the office. She did NOT send it to me, so I guess my political viewpoints must be fairly well known or assumed.

7. Obviously written by a very sour, wretched person...
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 08:29 AM by mamalone
I pity her.

Other than that, I really have no response. You could get into a point-by-point rebuttal of everything she said, and give your reasons for why she should care... and deeply. But I suspect it would only upset you further, and not convince her of the error of this drivel. People who write (and forward) this tripe usually aren't interested in what's truly "right" and "just," much less kind or compassionate- they just want to feed their own anger. Like I said... pity her:(

9. There's the rub. She didn't write it, only forwarded it. I still need to
set her straight. Some people I don't even bother with, but this one I need to, unfortunately.

14. Yeah... i do see that...
Maybe just start asking her questions, like "You said I wouldn't like one paragraph, which one was that?" "Is there any part of this that you disagree with... why?" Just kind of lead her into talking about her own feelings about the piece, and focusing on any disagreement or dissonance she is feeling... she's got to feel uncomfortable with some parts - it's so wretched. Then agree with her on her discomfort. Kind of sly, maybe, but it works with my teenage girls;)

I hate these kinds of forwards.

15. Wouldn't help. People like her know that water isn't wet, and
pouring it over their face while they're strapped to a board won't convince them that it IS wet. You can't win.

10. That's classic - even has the treacly quotes from Raygun
You must be a very good friend to try to set this person straight. I'd just ignore them or go psycho on them to get them to ignore me.

12. What a brew . . .
Stirred up good. It would take you hours and thousands of words to unpack all the manure that is compressed in this email.

It's an omnibus idiot email!

13. So she's smug and self-satisfied about not caring at all about the
Koran, but she's incensed about others not caring about her Holy Bible? Fuck her. Double-fuck her. The ratio of stupid fucking unbearable people like her to decent people has be come unacceptably high, so much so that I'm actually thinking about moving to another country. (Granted, not just because of her ilk, but...)

And as far as quoting the great Ronald Reagan (who, as I like to point out to the Neocons who worship him, did NOT rise from the grave three days after he died, thank you very much)...Let me serve back with a tidbit from Abraham Lincoln (whom Republicans love to point out as the first Republican president whilst sidestepping the fact that, if he were alive today, and could see what the GOP is, wouldn't touch it with a fence rail):

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

Which we are now closer to doing than we've ever been. Thanks, Ms.Pelosi.
