Poll question: Will Obama move right, left, or stay the course?
The smoke on the wind is trending a little Right if one looks at some of Obama's new GE campaign hiree's - i.e. DLC economist Jason Furman. I figure he has to move more to the center from a strategical standpoint and it would not be a surprise if some of his appointments upsets progressives. Though if that is what needs to happen to ensure a Democratic president, I'll take it!

Is a more centrist path truly Obama, or is he just being politically astute? If he has to go a little right, how far will it be?

Either way, even a slightly marginalized (from the left) President Obama would be light years ahead of the alternative. :)

Which direction is Obama heading in for the GE?

1. The big question is whether he 'has' to go right or whether he wanted to all along.
I don't care about his campaign hires. I care about his actions. And right now it looks like he's gonna do an el foldo on FISA. This is not an insignificant law the Congress is about to enact. It goes to our Constitution, the separation of powers, the rule of law in the United States. Screw Obama's campaign hires. I want to see him stand up for the Constitution.

4. He will do what it takes to secure the presidency
As much as I admire him, he is still *after all* a politician.

He will be politically expedient and in the process, he will piss off some on the left. More then anything, he needs to choose a path that will lead to a win this Fall. Once he sits in the White House, I'm confident the left will be thrilled that he will be the one making SCOTUS nominee decisions.

9. Yes, we know what it looks like, doing what it takes to secure the presidency.
And we see what people can become, those who think they need 'more than anything' to choose the path that will lead to winning.

A person can function as a politician and still not give up his soul. But it takes courage.

5. He'll go whichever direction it takes to win the GE
As he should. Once he's pres he can go back to his true self. It's politics. It's what you have to do to win.

7. Going to the Center and going Right is the same direction...

You don't honestly think he'll end up on the Republican side, do you? I don't think the people who chose "Right" thought that.

I think your poll is flawed.

10. Yes and no...
Obama has enough strength of character to not lose his core, but he will be appointing some rethugs - but not for VP!

That will be a centrist Dem, probably EX-military.
