Why are the McCains not showing us their children?
We have seen Chelsea on the campaign trail with Hillary and of course the Obama children with their parents, but a quick google search turned up nada on the McCain children. Why are they hiding them and do the McCains think they can hide them if he gets elected?

3. At least for the Republican party. Why would you even want to be in a party that would have problems
with that? Pat Buchanan would probably go crazy if McCain showed up at an event with his brown skinned daughter.

2. His one daughter has a website and updates it regularly.
His other daughter, according to that website is shy and does not want to be a part of the campaign.

The Clinton's kept Chlesea out of the spotlight when she was little. I do not think it is inappropriate.

Even Bush let us have a peak at the twins, but what about Poppy George Herbert Walker? It seems he didn't want us to see his kids either. We were instead distracted with a lot of pablum about Milly, the dog.

18. I wish we didn't see Obama's children
One photo of Barack's family, including kids, would have been just right for me.

I don't think minor children should be part of parents' campaigns at all. Their privacy should be respected. And, they should be sheltered as much as possible from becoming targets of the loonies out there.

George Bush doesn't get much praise from me, but I admire the way they kept the twins out of the media, particularly during his first race and first term.

41. there shouldn't be- but we know that there are those in this country
who are pretty unkind.

If the McCains think that they can keep her free of the media and live in the white house.... I think they are not only fooling themselves, they are setting Bridget up for another round of ugly experiences.

I think what went on in the race for 2000 concerning her was dispicible- But I also am angry at the McCains for not being "straight" with her- and the fact that she only found out about the Rovian smear campaign when she googled her name in 2006-She was crushed by the whole thing. THAT was poor parenting.

IMO-

I hope for her sake especially, the media takes a flying leap.

peace~

58. yeah, I was really
surprised that the Mccains were so ....stupid.-

To not talk to her about the incident, and to have her find out like she did, could only re-enforce the notion that there really was something about her that was 'shameful'- which is non-sense.

She's being used- by the mccain campaign to pander to the 'pro-life' crowd- and yet, they claim to want to keep her safe from the uglyness of the media???

60. I think I'd have handled it in the same way
Especially because at the time she was way too young to handle being told what Rove et al were saying about her.

"Honey, we love you very much, but there are people out there who think you're scum. Sweet dreams, sleepyhead."

At the very least, how and whether to tell her would be a tough decision to make. This is one thing I don't blame the McCains for. Also, I think that picture of Cindy breaking out of Robot Mode to kiss Bridget is pretty sweet--it's literally the only time I've seen her look not like a Stepford wife.

61. the answer you suggest would be fine
way address the issue when the Rove smear came out-
But when Mccain continued to entertain plans to run for president- to avoid or ignore discussing the kinds of crap that would likely return or resurface with Bridget by 2006, was wrong, and irresponsible.

I'm an adoptive mother myself, so, I admit I am probably not very objective about this. One pre-requisite to special needs adoption in our situation were courses addressing the issues which often face families in just this kind of situation. Secrecy, no matter how well intentioned, is usually very destructive- and I believe this illustrates just that.

I'm not commenting on Cindy's love for her children-
I AM frustrated that they know the kind of crap she will be exposed to, and yet, they themselves- are using her in mailings-

peace~

Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 06:24 PM by Cali_Democrat
Unfortunately for McCain, Republicans care a great deal about their "brown" kid because Republicans are very racist.

This forces McCain to hide his kid from the world.

Very sad.

That's why he was freaked out in DC, back in '00 when Rover wnet after him with the "black baby" push polling..

Some super-rich (like Cindy) heep their family stuff pretty secretive.. perhaps they feared kidnapping..or just loose lips..

and Chelsea did not start out campaigning... Her Momma probably asked for her help..and since she could, she did..

the premiers of the former Soviet Union who did the same. I don't think anyone even knew that Stalin was married and a family man. The nefarious reason was that they were free to indulge in their blood baths without having to worry so much about retaliation on their family because nobody knew.

51. your search is to narrow, here are family photos
both sons are serving in the military and he will not discuss them and make them targets like he was in VietNam with an Admiral father.

both daughters are on the campaign trail with him, there was one shot of his two daughters. He does not use them politically.

His daughter (Bridget) found out that in 2000 she was push polled and used against her dad, she asked him if this year was going to be better, he told yes.
His daughter Meagan voted for Kerry in 2004, she blogs for her dad.
