Repubs upset over Obama's campaign sign/symbol
He he he...

{big]Barack Obama's campaign seal looks familiar

The candidate unveils a new symbol that Republicans deride as going too far.
June 21, 2008

Barack Obama has styled himself as "the audacity of hope" candidate, but on Friday he unveiled a new campaign seal that his critics say is simply audacious -- not to mention presumptuous.

The symbol -- a blue circle featuring a bald eagle gripping an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other -- resembles the official seal of the president of the United States. It was on Obama's podium when he spoke to Democratic governors meeting in Chicago.

Also like the presidential seal, Obama's was inscribed with a Latin phrase. In this case it was "Vero Possumus" (translation: Yes, we can).

<snip>

He <Sevugan> also hastened to say that McCain's set designs hadn't all been winners. Early this month the McCain campaign was ribbed for putting its candidate before a bright-green background that, bloggers said, made him look sickly on TV.

14. Vero Possumus!

I like the way the Obama campaign is using OBAMA FOR AMERICA like Dean's DEAN FOR AMERCIA..

Dean is still working for America and it's a very positive message.

21. The eagle looks
like it is laying an egg. Truly, that is my first thought whenever I see it. I hope it is retired. I like the old one better. It reminded me of sunrise and a new beginning.

6. If only the Latin phrase was something like
Minutus Cantorum Minutus Balorum Minutus Carborata Descendum Pantorum, then Obama would be our greatest president ever.

19. Just my two cents. But I do find it a little strange.
I'm not sure what it is needed to convey. He avoided wearing the flag lapel pin because he wanted his actions to convey his loyalty and love for democracy so why not apply the same here. I think it is foolish for the Repubs to go overboard with this but rally our man should have given this a little more reflection before unveiling this.

new symbol is going to fade away fairly quickly and quietly.

20. I figured this was going to get the right wing foaming at the mouth
I was lurking at crapitalhill forum today and they were all looney tunes about what is actually a rather silly design. Take the reaction of the nutjobs at crapital hill; tone it down a few notches and that will be the right wing response.

Frankly, I bet we won't be seeing much more of this seal in the future.

It's just too weird. Too cartoonish. Too crass.

Nevertheless, if the GOP hates it, I guess that makes it a little bit better.
