1. Exactly! Richard Clarke covered this brilliantly on Countdown.

He said that the terrorists DO pay attention to politics and that Osama bin Laden had even cited a European poll in one of his messages. They do try to influence elections.

Keith came back with the great point that we should NOT be giving the terrorists ammunition, as Charlie Black's comments did, as a green light to influence our elections.

an election of Obama may cause Bush to go after Iran with bombings

and....

a terrorist attack on US soil (hint, hint) would help keep the constant war on Al Queda (and its resulting recruitment benefits) going because McCain likely would be elected.
