Ring of truth to McCain adviser's terror comment?
McCain adviser may have struck a nerve
Candidate distances himself from terror comment, but does it ring true?

Sen. Barack Obama and his surrogates continued to criticize Charles R. Black Jr., a top adviser to Sen. John McCain, on Tuesday for saying a terrorist attack before the November election would help the presumptive Republican nominee. But behind their protests lay a question that has dogged Democrats since Sept. 11, 2001: Was Black speaking the truth?

"I think the remarks were so out of place that they call for some recalibration in the thinking and perhaps a greater adherence to principle here in staying away from the politics of fear," Ben-Veniste said.

An ‘obvious’ claim?
But radio host Rush Limbaugh said aloud what other Republicans have been saying privately for months. Black's comments were "obvious," Limbaugh said yesterday on his program as he criticized McCain for distancing himself from them.

Limbaugh said in no uncertain terms that Obama would be weak in the face of terrorism. "We know damn well it's Obama who would seek to appease our enemies. We know damn well it's McCain who won't put up with another attack," Limbaugh said.

:eyes: I stopped reading when they quoted Rush as a source

1. Much like Raygun appeased the Iranian terrorists to get himself elected?

2. Miracles have not ceased.
I have never said it before; probably will never say it again. Rush is right. So is Black. They know it. Why elese were the terra lerts raised constantly in 2004?

5. We were different people in 2004 in my opinion
I can only speak for myself but at the beginning I actually believed that there were dangers. Of course once the high alerts started coinciding with scandal I saw what was going on. I think that the nation as a whole is more jaded and we don't pee our pants in fear like we used to. In fact, (I am sad to say) I doubt that another attack would unify the country like 9/11 did. I feel we have become hardened to the idea.

3. There is a backlash to a terrorist attack though
The only claim to fame that the Rethugs have is that there have been no more attacks on American soil since 9/11. Personally I don't beleive its because of anything THEY have done, I think its because the war in Iraq was Bin Ladin's wet dream of destroying America's economy and demoralizing its military.

But I digress...

If we are attacked then the Republican's will PROVE that they can't keep us safe. And there is nothing a Republican hates more than proof!!!

4. It's 100% true...
It defies logic for any sane, rational, semi intelligent person to say "Hmmmm....we just got attacked....let's give more power to the political party whose policies allowed this to happen and in fact contributed to it!" but then again we are not a nation of sane, rational, semi intelligent people so....yeah, what he said is absolutely the truth.

6. Not this time
This is a different country than it was 4 years ago. The economy is in the toilet. Our infrastructure is crumbling. The price of food and gas is insane. Practically everyone has come to see the Iraq war as the biggest mistake made in the last 40 years. If there were another terrorist attack, chaos would ensue because the American people have had it.

As far as attributing McCain's resurgence to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto? Whoever the hell believes that has been smoking crack. McCain won the nomination because, at the time, he appeared to be the sanest one of his competitors. Now, of course we know he's just as nuts as the rest of his elephantine buddies.
