he says he opposes the SCOTUS decision banning the death penalty for child rape. But it's been mostly uneventful.

6. If you believe that the death penalty deters people from committing murder...

... then NOT having the death penalty for child rape could encourage the rapist NOT to kill the child after they rape them.

If someone rapes a child, you don't want them killing the child because they figure they'll get the death penalty if the child lives to testify against them.

Death penalty for child rape provides an incentive not to leave a living witness.

7. I agree with you. As does Justice Kennedy

who wrote the decision and said precisely that in it. I suspect this is one of the positions Sen Obama has to say he holds, whether it is true or not. I seem to recall him being very involved in the death penalty stuff in IL, so I don't think he's a fan of it at all.
