James Dobson is bugfuck insane.....
....and a wide stance waiting to happen. I am so glad that Senator Obama has the spine to confront this troll and smack him back under the rock that this little boy-buggering cockroach crawled out from under.

5. I used to be a Christian
and still hold many Christian philosphies. However I don't believe in Life after Death or Jesus as the only way to salvation anymore.

The funny thing is my liberal ass used to kick the shit out of RW fundies with Scripture during the discussion phase of any bible study.

BTW as a Buddhist what do you think of Pema Chodron? I read her alot.

6. I actually went to Seminary but when you study the actual texts many of
the supernatural aspects like the virgin birth and the resurrection are clearly not supported by the original texts (even more glaring problems in Genisis). It would be a very provocative discussion to have to see how many of the modern Christian theologians really believe in the Resurrection as a literal historical event.

Of course the person of Jesus remains a transcending moral prophet that still challenges all of us.

I am not familiar with Chodron. From your statements I would think that you would find Phra Buddhadasa a very friendly read.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhadasa

While Buddhadasa was an ordained monk in the Theravada branch of Buddhism, having submitted to Thai government regulated ordination rituals, he embraced a world-view which rejected specific religious identification. With regards to this, he famously said that "in advanced perspectives there is no religious identification whatsoever."

“ ...those who have penetrated to the highest understanding will feel that the thing called "religion" doesn't exist after all. There is no Buddhism; there is no Christianity; there is no Islam. How can they be the same or in conflict when they don't even exist?

3. Dobson, of course, is insane.
But why did you choose "wide stance" over "diaper wearing"?

Both Craig and Vitter are family-values hypocrites.

7. Dobson is a good example of a bad Christian.
I take him to be a businessman, at best, and not a particularly honest one at that. He's more of the den-of-thieves variety.

A case of a little bit of knowledge being used to manipulate many, many people who are too eager to be spoonfed "the truth" from an authority figure.

Dobson's family psychology writings are frightening because they pretend to lead those astray into a sort of Christian discipline, but a family of a friend's acquaintence who follow Dobson's advice for a "good Christian home" have very significant behavioral problems in two children.

That's not to isolate Dobson as the sole reason for the behavioral difficulties, but only to say that there's considerable grounds to challenge his theories, and very likely in more than one household.

Obama's challenge to Dobson is not only refreshing to me as a voter, but also as an observer of how an uptight power-mongering illusionist like Dobson can take real criticism -- something he hasn't really encountered to date from a focused national figure. Obama is not afraid of the fundie nutbags, and in fact knows quite a bit more about their faith than they do.

Those who have ears, etc. This November I predict a few upturned tables.
