McCain makes the race personal, attacks Obama’s integrity

It was probably inevitable that John McCain would abandon his pledge to focus exclusively on the issues, and steer clear of personal attacks, I just didn’t expect it as early as June.

snip//

The irony, of course, is that McCain said Obama “cannot be trusted” to keep his word the exact same afternoon in which McCain broke his promise to voters on immigration policy, and abandoned his own “pledge” to the public.

If McCain wants to criticize Obama for bypassing the public-financing system, fine. It’s odd, of course, given McCain’s apparently illegal decision to play fast and loose with the public-financing system, but if he sees this as a key issue, it’s up to him to craft his own strategy.

But does John McCain really want to talk about which candidate “cannot be trusted”? Is this really an invitation to review the instances in which McCain has either lied to voters or broken his word?

We can make this campaign personal. It wouldn’t be pleasant, and it would make McCain look pretty bad, but if he wants to talk about honesty and character, we can go there.

1. To me, this line of attack says he knows he's getting his ass kicked
He's going to the hard stuff early; nothing of substance is working for him.

4. One can hope, but now the m$m is reporting
how disrespectful Obama's surrogates are (Clark) for speaking ill of McSame's war service. Not a word about how McSame is doing likewise towards Obama's integrity. The scales are definitely tipped, and not in our favor.

7. I'd be more concerned if it was 2004 and the country was obsessed with security
Dead-ender white males who won't vote for us anyway will jump on Wes as justification for voting Republican, but many more people know we're screwn economically if we don't throw out the supply sider playbook. McCain isn't getting traction with independents the way he needs to, so he's going personal earleir than I'm sure he'd like to. Plus, McCain's whole career since losing to W. in 2000 is an exercise in expediency. To the extent that "flip-flop" hurts Obama, he's well armed for a rebuttal (especially on economic fairness and special interests).

8. His only hope is personal attacks
because he is in the toilet regarding his poll numbers. McClone inspires no one and the Bush albatross around his neck will prove to be his demise

2. john mccain is a liar..he said he wasn't going to
do personal attacks. I know Obama won't be doing it 'cause it is about Change and the way we do politics.

3. Yes, we can go there, but will we?
or will the TV Dems let all of the old dirt bag's slime go uncontested and unrefuted? Time will tell

6. I have the same questions
Many of the TV Dems are too soft. They get run over by many of the Repub TV people.

It's very frustrating to watch.

5. This from the guy that proudly proclaimed he passed the new GI Bill when he didn't even show up to
vote on it. I don't think McSame personally even knows YouTube exists; what a slime-sweating maroon.

9. It's just starting ... and it's just going to get worse.
I like what Barack said, though: "I don't do cowering."

10. The real pity is the MSM is giving McBush a big, giant pass.
I don't understand the love fest, but apparently McCain breaking campaign finance laws for months on end is a nonissue. His flip flopping on everything from oil drilling to taxation to abortion rights to immigration policy isn't considered a "trust" issue. I'm so fucking sick of the talking heads.
