The Daily Howler finds Chris Matthews "unfit for command."
http://www.dailyhowler.com/

<edit>

All of a sudden, Matthews wants to have “a serious election,” “not one about personality like last time.” But why is that such a total laugh? Because, as Matthews obliquely acknowledged, no one made a bigger joke out of Campaign 2000 than he did, with his bald-faced lying about Candidate Gore and his two solid years of nasty name-calling. Matthews clowned as few others did—and his cohort’s War Against Gore eventually put George Bush in the White House. But now Matthews wants to see Bush replaced—and he hopes for a “serious” campaign.

But readers, if Matthews wants a serious election, why won’t he do some serious homework? Last night, he battered Thurlow around, challenging him about several claims. And indeed: Right off the bat, another shaky claim was offered. But Matthews, hopelessly unprepared, didn’t know how shaky it was. The host was unfit for command.

<edit>

TOUGH-TALKIN’ MALKIN: Alas! Chris was also caught short on his facts when he battled tough-talkin’ Michelle Malkin. Their exchange is becoming a cause celebre, with Matthews praised for defending Kerry. But once again, the host lacked facts. The man is paid millions of dollars a year. And he simply won’t do basic homework.

<edit>

“Did you read the section in the book!” Malkin has a lot to learn! On this matter, Matthews is going to take up for Kerry; he no longer likes the world his two-year trashing of Gore produced. But no, he won’t be reading books, and he won’t be aware of basic facts. On cable, your hosts are unfit for command. That make this quite clear every night.

1. Thanks for sharing - Matthews is still just a simple bully.
He has not changed - just likes the attention.

3. Matthews probably had the facts
but wanted the smarmy people to name names and be specific in what they were saying. The way to do it was to badger them like he did.

5. That's an interesting thought...why name all the facts
yourself when you can ask your "fly" to explain it if they can?

7. He used a classic Hannity move
on hapless Michelle (or should I say feckless?). He badgered her enough so that she ended up saying explicitly what she was supposed to insinuate: that John Kerry's Purple Hearts were self-inflicted.

I suspect a) that she was bewildered by Matthews's shift. She thought he was a nice safe place to spew--and b) she doesn't think on her feet very well.

4. Somerby is still pissed about Gore...
I'm surprised Somberby didn't smack Tweety for not calling out Malkin when she mentioned that Gore "started" the Willie Horton stuff.

But Chris was ready to smack down Thurlow and Malkin.

It is not a matter of "our side" on this issue with him. He's pissed that these people are attacking the guy's military career, not even the post war testimony, but his actions during combat.

Why everyone, including those opposed to Kerry's ultimate anti-war stance, is not outraged is a mystery to me.

6. I'm sure not going to trash Chris for last nights show.
I watched it, and for a change, some media person said "Just a simple yes or no" and he wouldn't let her off the hook. You have no idea how many times I've screamed those words at my tv! Almost all the media let guests slide by with putting thier spin on their answer. I'm not ready to say Chris is my favorite, but I'm giving him a solid OK for last night.
