What would happen if during the republican convention McCain
condemned the swift puke ad and the people associated with it?

1. I won't happen because McCain is a shameless whore
His earlier condemnation was a token gesture. Don't look for a repeat from Whipped-dog Johnny

3. Yup.
People keep expecting this man to be a hero. Me, I see a difference between keeping yourself alive in horrific circumstances and risking your own life to help others.

McCain is a survivor. Not the same as a hero.

10. McCain could have left the prison in Hanoi where he was being held,
but chose to stay rather than leave his fellow captives and give the North Vietnamese a propaganda talking point.Few men would have made that choice;I know I wouldn't have. That's damned heroic to me.

His campaigning for Bush has stripped him of any political integrity he once had, however.

13. Something else may be at work
Cheney is a real liability to Team Chimp. He is the poster boy for blatant conflict of interest, he's compromised other right wingers in government (like Scalia) and he has multiple lawsuits and investigations pending. Plus, he's an ugly SOB and people just plain don't like him. I have a sneaking suspicion there isn't much keeping him on the ticket.

I shudder to think of McCain in the #2 spot. He'd be hard to beat, even in that spot. He'd be attracted to it because he is an ambitious man who knows Chimpy will probably be facing an impeachment if he manages to get back into office.

Whether or not he gets on the ticket, I'm sure this is one thing they are dangling in front of him to keep him in line.

4. What he said
McCain is lapdog material now.

Nice thought, though. I think that would be enough for a certain percentage of RWers to at least sit out the election.

2. Will Not Happen - McCain Has No Self-Respect
I could never do what he is doing if someone said the things about my wife, family & me the Bush Team did. How can you have any self-respect and stand by this guy. I would never have guessed McCain would do this. If anything occurs, I would not be surprised if they announced him as their VP.

7. A coworker and I were talking about this yesterday.
We got into this "what if" all the way to McCain using his speech as a diatribe on the evils of the current GOP, abandoning the principles that he joined them for, telling them all to fuck off, and switch parites...right there on the MSG floor during prime time. Of course Faux and CNN would cut away so Britt and Wolfie could talk over him.

Fantasy, yes...but it would be beautiful!:D

I really think that the bombshell (September surprise) is that Cheney would reject the nomination, citing health and "time with his family" and McCain would be named running mate during the convention. :scared:

8. Unlike the whore Zell Miller, McCain will remain
loyal to his party. Even though he knows what it is to be on the receiving end of BushCo smear tactics he will put that aside and shill for BushCo. He has no shame...just like Zell Miller.

9. no way would that happen....
because he did not stand up for his own family when they did these same dirty tricks back in 2000 to them! WHY would he take a stand at the GOP convention? He knows he would never keep his senate seat if he spoke out too much...he's watching out for himself.

When will (some) Democrats realize that this man is one of the most conservative politicians in this country? Strip away his posturing and whoring for the media and you have someone more conservative than rick Santorum.

Enough already! :grr: :argh: :hurts:

According to THAT chart, Kerry isn't even in the top 20 most liberal.

12. McCain is a willing pawn in the game being played to try and
"muzzle" all 527 groups. That's just my opinion. He not only denounces the SBVFT, but moveon and ACT. The Repubs are trying hard to stop the ads from our side by making theirs as outrageous as possible. Their answer is always that ALL the 527 ads should stop.

18. Interesting info from opensecrets.org
http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527grps.asp

This page lists the major groups and whether they are conservative or liberal.

http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527cmtes.asp?level=C&cycle=2004

This page lists the top 50 organizations (money wise).

It looks to me like WE are ahead in this particular race. That's why they are so scared of the 527s. The largest ones are predominantly liberal.

Other interesting info: http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527events.asp?orgid=61

This page shows that, according to IRS info as of 8-15-2004, the SBVFT had receipts of $158,750 and expendidtures of $60,403. At the bottom of the page, it shows an event (the tv ad buy) on 8-5-2004 costing $550,000. The discrepancy may just be because of delayed reporting requirements. But, it's interesting to wonder how they managed to spend about four times what they collected.
