"Can Obama now win over the regular folks, white folks, against John McCain?"
:wtf:

Reason number 56,789 why I can't stand Tweety....

Matthews: "Can Obama now win over the regular folks, white folks, against John McCain?"

On the July 7 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews teased an upcoming segment by saying: "They're the working-class white voters Hillary Clinton won and Barack didn't. Can Obama now win over the regular folks, white folks, against John McCain? We'll ask the strategists." On the June 30 edition of Hardball, Matthews similarly teased a segment by asserting: "Up next: They're the working-class white voters Hillary won and Barack didn't. Can Obama win over the regular folks against John McCain?"

Matthews has also previously asked if Sen. Barack Obama was "too University of Chicago or too South Side Chicago" for working-class voters. Matthews posed the question after MSNBC senior campaign correspondent Tucker Carlson asserted that "the working-class voters of West Virginia and Kentucky, and their counterparts in a bunch of states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania" are "the voters you need to watch and he needs to win." Matthews also previously questioned whether Obama can "connect with regular people" or if he appeals "only" to African-Americans and the well-educated. Talking with Obama supporter Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) on the April 1 edition of Hardball, Matthews said: "Let me ask you about how he -- how's he connect with regular people? Does he? Or does he only appeal to people who come from the African-American community and from the people who have college or advanced degrees?"

1. Obama spends a lot of time ..

... "reassuring" people that he's not really far out in some way. What "regular people" have to do with it (or what it even means) I'm not sure.

7. I just want to know if Tweety thinks of minorities as "regular people"
or if that term is reserved for white people only.

2. K&R I'M SO SICK OF THIS CRAP!!!!!!! WHY ISN'T MCSAME "ELITE?"
Jesus!!! Why don't they just say "is he too uppity & over-educated?" And who the fuck was that "Democratic Strategist?"

Then he says Kerry, Dukakis AND Obama are "elitist" what BS. Bush and McCain aren't country club Republicans? Why doesn't the Librul Media hang that elitist tag on their ass once in a while, or is being last in your class enough to make you not "elite?" And David Gregory was doing the same moronic shit on his show!

3. I always thought I was exceptional. Now Chris tells me I'm regular.
Wish I was another color, so I wasn't stuck just being "regular."

5. Tweety was really really fcking concerned tonight
Some of his comments were just WAY over the top with his "diner" scenarios of how Obama isn't white or black enough.

8. And notice
Not ONCE do they ask how McSame intends to win over regular 'black' voters.

Not once do they explore - Can McCain relate to Black Female voters.

Not once. I was watching Tweety tonight and thinking - why doesn't this jack ass ever give a fair and balanced perspective?

11. I thought everyone knows that Obama is 1/2 African American
So why does Chris Matthews
have to bring race up again?
I thought we were done with that.
With the racism coming from the media.
I thought they were going to let
Barack Obama be Barack Obama, not
Black Barack Obama.

I am tired of the media.
They are guilty of everything
you would not want your media
to do.

15. The thing that *really* pisses me off about this...
... is the fact that white people have voted for Obama all across this country. It's not the skin color of this particular group that stops them from voting for him... it's their culture. If Matthews really wanted to discuss this group of voters, he would stop with the color-coding and speak about their culture.

Matthews really needs to stop this "regular white people" shit.

16. He's certainly busy re-enforcing the idea that "white" = "default mode" of humanity.
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 08:50 PM by scarletwoman
Tweety is absolutely confident that everyone understands that "black" = NOT "regular".

THAT is the assumption that runs through our entire culture -- white = the norm, not white = not the norm.

17. No
The 'regular white folks' I know who Matthews is referring to will never vote for him. But they'd never vote for a democrat anyway. They should replace 'white problem' with 'rural religious people who live in the midwest and south' problem and replace 'Obama' with 'democrat'. Obama is trailing in the white vote by about 10-15 points (much due to the high GOP bias of whites in the south or midwest), which is the same that all democrat presidential candidates for president trail the GOP candidate.

Many of the whites who won't vote Obama because he is black wouldn't vote for a white democrat (Gore or Kerry) either.

Obama's 'white problem' is just as made up as his 'latino problem'. Obama is doing fine with both, and I think is doing better than Kerry with both groups already.

FTR, I find it insulting as a white male to be lumped in with bigots and religious fundies as a 'regular white folk'. My understanding is the whites who aren't in small towns in the south & midwest don't really share the GOP bias.

18. I saw that - and the poll he was referring to... blew my mind...
...because the freaking poll consisted of the question (paraphrasing) "does Obama/McCain share your values/cares about you?" And what were the results?

Obama
Yes-No
63%-31%

MaCain
Yes-No
56%-40%

WTF! WTF! So the idiot asks - as if only fellow idiots are watching this stupidity (perhaps therein lies the problem, myself included) - HOW is Obama going to win over these voters? Well, how the fuck is MCCAIN going to win them, since Obama's won over MORE of them by a 63%-56% margin?

Unbelievable. And he even asked it with a straight face - and noboby said, "uhm let's look at that poll again."

Good grief!

19. What next? Can Obama win over his own constituency - the Muslims?
I am so very sick and tired of this ridiculous meme about the poor to middle class working white guy that I just want to throw up. Only blacks and elites will vote for him? Well he wouldn't have won the primary if that was the case now, would he? Tweety Matthews got on my everlasting nerve during 9/11 and I have never seen or heard him say anything since that was the least bit interesting to me. Now he's coming across as some disgusting bigoted racist, albeit not so subtly.

Why doesn't he just wear a sign that says "I don't really know any black people!"?

He's an embarrassment when he does that.

Hey Tweety, all the fucking white Republicans are never going to vote for Obama!! All those "regular" white folk are racist, like your dumb ass.

Does Chris Matthews have numbers after his name and a wife with 99 million and seven estates?
