MSNBC: Edwards statement from Roanoke, calling Chimp out
Apparently Edwards has called on Chimp to stop the swiftliar ads, saying this is his "moment of truth."

Don't see a link anywhere yet.

to show leadership qualities.

If he can't get these ads to stop, what kind of person is he? What kind of leader is he? What kind of authority does he have?

3. Yeah, I love it when they bring it to him
Here's Max on Hardball Thursday:

MAX CLELAND (D-GA), FORMER U.S. SENATOR: Well, he came back today because he‘s a real man. He is an authentic American hero. And you can put up with this stuff only for so long, and then you go out there and say, Look, you know, you want to talk about Vietnam? You want to talk about war? You want to talk about injuries? Come on, George Bush. Let‘s duke this out right now.

I mean, George Bush is hiding behind this swift boat fantasy that is funded out of Texas by multi-millionaires that support George Bush. It‘s about George Bush. And he has set Vietnam veteran against Vietnam veteran here.

I loved it!!

24. Edwards has been on the attack constantly
but you only read about it in local press, since he's been visiting small towns around the country.

Even some wingnut bimbo on CNN asked a Kerry rep if Edward has been hiding out in some "undisclosed location" lately, and he pointed out where he's been lately. I wish I had been him and been given the chance to say: "Sadly, you work for a corporation that will not give local coverage to the candidates, unless they're named George W. Bush. If you and your network had been paying any attention, you'd know all the details about what Senator Edwards has been up to every day. Unfortunatly, you have only yourself to blame for your ignorance."

6. Painting Bush into a corner-
Bush doesn't even have the balls to denounce the scum boat vets, even though 99% of America would understand he didn't really mean it anyway. He is so scared of alienating any part of the haters and nutbags that is his base, he won't do anything even remotely honorable. What a dick.

7. No, he will
When it seems he has no other choice. Doesn't matter anyway to his hard-core, and even those who will hold their noses and vote for him are already holding their noses, so one more stench is unimportant. He is running a campaign of smear and disgust, hoping to minimize the vote and thus have a chance. It only gets uglier from here on out. We have to do everything that we can in good conscience to move on from this blight on history.

18. That's right ...chimp..who the media says sticks to his guns..
is the ultimate flip-flopper!

"President Bush: Flip-Flopper-In-Chief"

July 7, 2004

"From the beginning, George W. Bush has made his own credibility a central issue. On 10/11/00, then-Gov. Bush said: "I think credibility is important. It is going to be important for the president to be credible with Congress, important for the president to be credible with foreign nations." But President Bush's serial flip-flopping raises serious questions about whether Congress and foreign leaders can rely on what he says."

9. I saw this coming!
Kerry is the Alpha male in this race. If the people who really don't like Bush but are scared can be convinced that John Kerry is a macho killing machine, the Dauphin is toast.

talking to a friend and was saying that the next step was to directly challenge Bush to denounce the ads...

And the next step if he doesn't is to go after him for being a COWARD!!!

I want to see them rip Bush limb from limb. And deliver the coup de gras (sp?) and throw him on the junk heap!

12. Yes, I reported on what Tom Oliphant said in the
Mark Shields thread.....

In case you missed it, he has been getting very good local press and Oliphant said something to the effect that the response/feedback has been extremely good. It wasn't a poll but some sort of other assessment he was talking about....

13. Oliphant Said He had Never Seen Such A Spread Between
The Negative /Positive rating for a politician that was as wide as Edwards. At the local level he is having a huge effect. Brilliant strategery.

17. I fully agree.
If I were Kerry, I'd pretty much have Edwards camp-out in Ohio and Florida for at least 60% of the time remaining before Election Day.

Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 06:01 PM by AP
sending him around to local markets, getting local coverage and putting all his time into that is probably brilliant.

In the primaries, they ignored him all of 2003 because they knew that with the tiniest spark he was going to spread like wild fire. The national media will not give him that spark now on a national level, but the local media might do it for him on a local level. It's all very Gramscian.

14. A good line to use
This would be a perfect thing to say to Bush: "Is this what you meant when you ask us to support our troops?"

Use their own propoganda against them.

25. Now it's the top story on CNN's website!
From the CNN story:

"John Kerry had a moment of truth in his life in 1968 and in that moment of truth he chose to serve his country when he volunteered for military service, and volunteered again to go to Vietnam," Edwards said Saturday. "This is a moment of truth for George W. Bush. We're gonna see what kind of man he is and what kind of leader he is."
