McCain Re Call By Iraq PM For Withdrawal Timetable - PM Is Just Being A Politician
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 11:36 AM by Median Democrat
We have heard a certain disdain on this board for doing things due to political purposes. John McCain noted that the Iraqui PM may be flip flopping, and on NPR this morning, McCain suggested that the Iraqi PM was calling for the withdrawal due to Iraqi politics. So, perhaps a withdrawal is not a really good idea, since the Iraqi PM is acting like a typical politician?

The U.S. will withdraw its troops from Iraq “with honor, not according to a set timetable,” John McCain said today, in response to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki issuing a statement that said the two countries should “put a timetable on their withdrawal."

“We will be able to withdraw with honor, and I am sure that it will be dictated by the situation on the ground,” McCain said. “I’m confident that is what Prime Minister Maliki is talking about, since he has told me that for the many meetings we have had."

Al-Maliki's talk of a timetable for U.S. withdrawal is, in part, for domestic political consumption—Iraq is expected to hold provincial elections before the end of the year. But he is neither foolish nor reckless. His remarks reveal a sense of confidence that Iraq will, before too long, stand on its own. It's a confidence this nation can share.

1. That's his REPLY?
It seems like all of the GOP talking heads have received their talking points today...because that's basically what they're all saying.

3. Imagine how the Repukes would have spun the revolution
had the French decided to run the colonies, instead of letting the U.S. become its own sovereign nation ...

Oh, wait ... the conservatives were the Tories, the Loyalists ...

4. Ironically, Maliki's Comments Bolsters Obama's Call For A Timetable
In contrast, it is interesting that McCain has essentially called Maliki a liar by saying that Maliki told him something differently in private. Great! The GOP presidential candidate undermining Maliki in Iraq, by saying that Maliki is lying to the Iraqi people by publicly calling for a timetable. Worse, on NPR, McCain said that Maliki was just doing this for political reasons.

I guess it is a knee jerk GOP reaction to simply say that Obama or anyone else they disagree with is motivated by politics or just being a politician.

Sadly, many DUers fall for, and repeat, this line of crap.

5. Bush and McYawn are desperately trying to muzzle Maliki now
and scream "HE DOESN'T MEAN IT! HE DOESN'T MEAN IT!" as loud as they can.

6. Wait, I Thought The Surge Was A Great Success?
If things are bad, we need more troops to stabalize Iraq.

If things are good, we need more troops to keep things stable.

But Big Media just eats it up.
