Get a grip, DU. We all understand your concern.
If I didn't despise DU polls, I'd run one to see how many of your are aware of the brainless obsession plaguing DU. It's nothing new -- we had over 2000 threads started with "Jeremiah Wright" mentioned in the opening post during the primaries.

So, we're hurtling toward the Democratic Convention in August, and the undisciplined children are still disrupting any chance of intelligent conversation at DU. The new topic, of course, is the FISA bill.

Care to venture a guess as to how many threads have mentioned FISA + Obama in the opening post? Well, that depends on when you start counting:

  • Past 24 hours: 87 threads dedicated to this topic.
  • Past 48 hours: 117
  • In July, over 200 threads.
  • Over the past 4 weeks, we've had nearly 500 threads dedicated to this single issue.

Care to guess how many original thoughts have been expressed in the OP of those threads? Here's a clue -- you can count them on your fingers with one hand in your pocket.

Shiny!

1. Yes
The concern is flowing greatly right now by the arm chair generals.

3. I don't think it is a negative...
That there are so many posts about FISA and Obama. I think there are so many posts because there is not a logical explanation or a satisfactory resolution. I think people want to talk until they feel there is nothing more to say on the issue. Maybe until the cows come home. :-)

7. It's not a negative if you have a 20 second attention span or suffer from OCD.
For the rest of us, it's getting old. My "Hide Thread" cache is stuffed. I'm beginning to "ignore" posters again (a lot of repeaters from the primaries).

I can't think of anything positive coming from rehashing the same concerns with the same words hundreds -- thousands? --of times.

11. I think the point is not the discussion but the number of threads. One can
discuss just as easily in an existing thread as in a brand new one.

31. I knew that was your point, because I hate it too. I responded to the wrong post though
I meant to put this under the comment that the Constitution meant nothing to you, further down the thread. I hate it when I do that.

19. I'll agree with
no satisfactory resolution but there have been several logical explanations. However, the amount of threads that poppped up and all saying the same thing and by the same people (and within the same time frame) has no logical explanation.

Tell you, Patriot: why don't you post the Constitution 500 times and see if that gets old.

28. That's good. Nice response.
The "so the Constitution is not important" or "you must not love the Constitution" are some of the straw men responses that I see posted. Right, only they care for the Constitution or think it is important and there is only one viable point of view--theirs. This is used in exactly the same way that Republicans will accuse you of not loving America or being a patriot unless you agree with them.

This reminds me of last month when it was reported that Feingold would put up procedural roadblocks to stop the FISA vote. He was then derided here with comments like "big deal, procedural roadblocks", but when he said he would support a filibuster, then it was "He is a patriot, a patriot!"

8. Threads sink or swim by the level of interest in them.
It's a discussion board. It would be impossible to control the "popularity" of certain threads as opposed to others and certain death to a board dedicated to "talk'.

14. You're missing the point -- I'm not talking about hits on a given thread.
This is about 500 brand new threads talking about one topic with nothing new being added at any given time.

20. So a message board shouldn't have messages on it?
Just because you don't like what's being discussed doesn't mean we can't discuss it 10, 20 or 1000 times. Maybe we should all forward our thoughts to you for preapproval. :sarcasm:

Let me make sure I understand you: I should tolerate someone (or a group of someones) who wants to post the same idea 1000 times. But, you cannot tolerate me posting an idea you don't like just one time.

Sweet.

How many concerned about DU threads?

How many STFU and get in line threads?

30. It's hugely important. You're missing the concept of this thread:
I didn't object to a couple of posts on the subject, or even a couple dozen. I objected to nearly 100 in a single day and 500 in a month.

Just read the OP. It's all there.

26. Too Many people START NEW THREADS when just repeating topics
It really bothers me that when those who are mad at this or that aspect of Obama's campaign START A FRESH NEW THREAD to say the same thing three other threads are already discussing. Why can't they just join an existing thread?

It seems so egotistical that they can't just scan the existing threads and join one. No no no. Their precious thoughts might get lost in someone elses ! Oh heavens.

I WISH THERE WERE A LIMIT to how many threads each person could start per day.

35. People are passionate about it.
If YOU don't like it, and your cache can't take it any more, you're free to vacate the premises so the rest of us can discuss what is important to us.

And NO, I don't want to restrict your right to say what you said in the OP. I just don't care for posts that piss and moan about what other people want to discuss. It suggests that you think somebody died and made you King of DU.
