Just checking in and gobsmacked by the passionate newbies being driven out by DU habits

The recurring theme seems to be folks arriving recently because they thought this would be the place for a certain level of awareness and discussion.

Next thing ya know there's a megaRec'd OP about "Stay Out If You Don't Agree."


Once you've been around here for a while -- and especially if you share that shock that DU is not quite as "progressive" as one thought.... and more combative ...... you learn the ropes.

Apparently some folks are hanging in under a 100 posts and bailing.

Would this be the time for some self reflection on DU? Is it really a good idea to drive folks away?

I stuck around because I did NOT want to be in an echo chamber and wanted to hear from different points of view. DU is diverse. That's great.

However, sometimes the communication skills REALLY break down.

It's too bad to drop in and see potential allies saying goodbye, while territorial DUers are saying "good riddance."

this is DU's bag - you either survive the fight and learn how to swim against/with the current or you take a powder. Many of us are douches and we were also n3wbs at one time.
