I'm so glad they are reminding people of the McCain smears...
It makes it harder for anyone to say "Oh it's not coming from Bush himself" when they get reminded that coincidentally 2 Vietnam vets who ran against Bush have had their records questions and Bush has in both instances refused to condemn the men who did it.

1. I think it's a good way to get independant voters
Independants LOVE McCain.

2. Wish they would quote
what they said about McCain. As I recall it had something to do with questioning his heroism since all he did was sit in a jail in Viet Nam for years and that in their minds is not heroism.
Voters really need to be reminded how low they will go.

5. As I recall they said he was the only prisoner to gain weight
In other words they said McCain was an enemy collaborator. To me those are very much fighting words.

3. It's also not just defending, but taking the issue and turning it around.
It's political gold. Part of the noise around Bush has always been, "Yeah, he'd dumb, but he's a nice, patriotic, dumb!" But consistently using dirty tricks like these isn't nice and it isn't patriotic. Damage control doesn't get better than this. Now I'm simply waiting to see how far the pendulum swings in the other direction.

4. Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt just lied
Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Saturday, "John Kerry has run a relentlessly negative campaign, the only campaign that has ever questioned anyone's service during the Vietnam War, repeatedly making baseless accusations about the president."
