The race is very close...
It is possible that we will have a President McCain in January 2009. As bad as things have been and as bad as they will get under John McCain, there are people that will continue to vote for more of same medicine. Like a drunk on Sunday morning, they want just another little sample of the hair of the dog that bit them. Surely that will make them feel better?

But Monday morning will surely come. We will find that more taxcuts for the wealthy are not the solution. We will find ourselves deeper and deeper in debt. We will find ourselves further entrenched in a war that was not necessary and, most likely, was a crime against humanity. We will find millions more without jobs. We will find ourselves in a hole so deep that hope will be hard to find.

But, I have no doubt that there are people that will vote for more of the same, regardless of what their conscience and heart might say to them. They will not vote for the Democrats. They would rather die first.

However, if Barack Obama and the Democrats assume control in January, there is no guarantee of a quick fix. Nobody can understand the real world unless they live in the real world. Politicians in Washington do not live in the real world. They do not have to worry about groceries or the price of gas or whether they will lose their jobs tomorrow. Most of them are fairly secure in their positions. Or so they think.

Unless they can comprehend the severity of the situation, it is doubtful that they will do much about it. Capitalism is dead when banks go bankrupt. It is on life support by the good graces of the taxpayers only. The citizens have demanded little from their government. Whenever they want to give us a raise in the minimum wage, that is up to them. Whenever they want to provide healthcare to our people, that will be up to them. We don't ask for much from our government. But they ask a lot from us.

Soon, it will be football season and we can forget all this bad stuff that is happening to us. We can escape from reality. We can escape from our incompetent and crazy leaders. Or so we think. But there is no escape. It will hit each and everyone of us in a very negative way. We will give up much, including the lifestyle we have become accustomed to. There's a hard rain is going to fall.

I apologize ahead of time for my negativity and lack of foresight.

1. Fear and propaganda are not our friends
If the media continues as it's going I think we will be in trouble.

2. Now is the time to evaluate electoral victory (as some did erroneously in the primaries)
It isn't close. Obama dominates, but that doesn't mean we don't need to be vigilant and break a sweat working for the nominee. Obama has capacious coattails and it's a supermajority in Congress - filibuster-proof - that he has in his sights.

6. It doesn't matter who it is...
if they do not understand that the status quo is rotten and need to be thrown out. If they try to put lipstick on the pig that is our present government, it will do little to help the common people. We need radical, and I mean RADICAL, change.

18. Yeah.... McLoon would be ahead by 20 points then.
At least we wouldn't have to worry about a close election that way. :puke:

8. your sentiments are yours, and we're allowed to speak our minds
but I feel great hope and belief we got this one won - McSame is far too horrible a campaigner - he is literally HALF as talented as B*sh was in '04 (and 1/10th the campaigner B*sh was in 00), and there is so much financial gloom and Iraq to worry about, that people will vote as a majority for change, and that will be Obama.

EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN I KNOW SAYS THEY AREN'T THRILLED WITH MCCCAIN AND WISHED FOR ANOTHER (RUDY, MITT, HUCK), SO I AIN'T WORRIED!

9. If a week before the republican convention McCain steps down for "health reasons"
then would you be worried?

I hate to sound paranoid, but Cheney didn't work this hard to get so much power in the executive only to take a chance on losing it to the dems because the repubs have a weak candidate. My crystal ball (which is always accurate - lol!) shows that McCain will choose Romney/whoever for vp & then step down before the election, leaving Romney/whoever as the repub candidate.

However, I'm not taking bets on that. ;)

10. It's reverse psychology..
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 02:53 PM by kentuck

If we can keep Obama supporters from getting over-confident, I think that is good for us. People will continue to work for him and not take anything for granted.

Conversely, I think many Republicans do not really care for McCain. In my opinion, they would be more inclined to vote for him if he was far behind than if the race were close.

Therefore, since the Democrats are more enthusiastic than the Republicans this year, it is to our advantage if the race is thought to be close. And it is to the Republicans disadvantage if the race is thought close, because many Republicans dislike McCain intensely and would only vote for him out of loyalty to the Party if they thought their vote would not matter...

Too deep, huh? :-)

Constant negativity dressed up as "constructive criticism" is not the best solution.

11. It's not very close.
It's only close in the popular vote, however, Obama is killing McCain in the electoral college. This race has 1992 written all over it, where Clinton barely beat Bush in the popular vote, however, soundly defeated him in the electoral college.

14. I don't even think it's close in popular vote
Obama by 8% as the likely result.

All this "It's close" shit is just silly, or worse. But far be it from me to tell people when they're being paranoid or stupid.

19. The problem is that if it's close in the popular vote then that gives them an opening to try to...
steal another election.

17. you have every right to feel negative - everytime something that looks good might happen -
bam! it gets taken away.

BUT NOT THIS TIME!
I believe Obama when he says things are going to be different this time and I believe even more strongly that it's not even about him any more - the movement has started and it cannot be taken away THIS TIME.
