Kerry/O'Neill face off on Dick Cavett...1971
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 05:17 AM by imax2268
So I went to CSPAN site today and watched the Dick Cavett show when Kerry and O'Niell faced off against each other...

If anyone hasn't seen this yet...I urge you to watch it.

anyway...I'm sitting there watching this thing...O'Neill wins the coin toss and off he goes...spewing some written statement,(probably prepared by someone in the Nixon admin), and it was full of the same old rhetoric that is often spewed by the right today.

Then after he was done John Kerry's turn came up and he began speaking off the cuff...no notes...no prepared statement...nothing...and proceded to rip O'Niell apart...called him on many issues...

Then O'Niell started to get personal...avoiding the real issues of the war and went after Kerry's character...the same thing we see today...I wonder if O'Neill is just upset because Kerry showed him up on that show...!

Point after point Kerry destroyed this man with facts, reason, and logic...something Mr O'Neill lacked...O'Neil seemed to have "some" support but when he "tried" to go after Kerry...but you could hear the audience laughing, booing, and pretty much disagreeing with O'Neill on every attempted point he tried to make...

It was great to finally see this and watch Kerry destroy this Nixonite/Bushie...really was great to watch...I recommend anyone who hasn't seen this to watch it...

1. IIRC ...
... I think I watched this on TV when I was a kid. I was about 13 at the time, I think.

I'm not 100% sure, but it certainly looks familiar. My Dad may have put it on to watch it. He was on active duty in the Army, and while the protests certainly grieved him, he was even more appalled by the stuff Nixon and the pro-war crowd was doing.

I'll have to watch it again ... hmm ...

2. Everybody should watch this..
Kerry throughly embarrassed O'Neil on Cavett; it was actually painful to watch. And I have no doubts that when you strip away all the moneymen, the GOP enabling etc., the real reason O'Neil is doing what he's doing is because he knows Kerry humiliated him on national TV, and he despises Kerry enough to do anything to get "payback".

3. That's
what I got from watching it...

If you look closely...you can see that right after Kerry made a direct hit on O'Neill...the look on his face was priceless...so much anger and disdain when Kerry embarrassed him...

I believe your right...take away all the resources that O'Neill has...and this is more then likely what it boils down to...
