New Republican talking points
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 09:32 AM by zuzu98
Ken Cordier was merely a "volunteer" who quit "as soon as we found out he was in the ad."

The only campaign talking about Vietnam is Kerry's.

* has denounced the SBV ads because he's called for an end to all 527 ads

EDIT: Oh, and I should have said that they manage to say these things with a straight face. :puke:

1. Goodfellow Cordier...
Was an important organizer for the repukes. History is clear on that fact. Do not back down from tht point. He was neck-deep in the organization of this smear. He had the experience and contacts to make this happen.

2. Kerry is not talking about Viet Nam, he's talking about having been to war
And that should be the Democratic talking point to rebut that lame Repubican attack.

3. I saw that too...

If they are allowed to spin longer on the subject, then it looks like they'll talk about former Kerry officials in 527(s), neglecting of course that fact that they actually quit the Kerry campaign before becoming involved.

Also likely will be the Dem. talking heads, who will 1) fail to point out that Cordier quit AFTER he became involved in the Swift ad., and 2) miss up a golden opportunity for a "give me a f* break" reaction that the Repubs are saying "no big deal" that an official for veteran affairs on BC04 was involved in the ad.

The Dem. spokewoman on CNN seemed nice though, I'm sure it is much more difficult under the glare of television cameras.

4. He needs to denounce the SBV, not just the SBV ads
And denouncing all 527s is not denouncing the SBV. The SBV are lying, and that's why they should be denounced.

I hope he doesn't denounce the SBV (which he won't).

TIME TO GET YOUR AWOL ON.

7. Need Dem Talking Points!
Drudge has a scoop that Bush is planning a trip to Athens to see the closing ceremonies and maybe an Iraqi soccer match.

Now is the time for the Dems to get out in front of the story and explain why Chimp is not welcome at Iraqi soccer matches. Spreading yesterday's MSNBC story would be a good idea.

It would be highly appropriate for Kerry to also say something like, "Fighting terrorism is not what is at issue here. I will fight terrorism every hour of every day while I am in the White House. I supported the liberation of Afghanistan and gave the President the authority to go to war in Iraq. What is at issue, however, is how the President went to war in Iraq and how we have squandered great opportunities in the war on terrorism at home and abroad."

"The President's trip to the Olympics serves not as a signal of our participation in international affairs but of a shameful appeal for political support in a venue that transcends politics and human history. The Iraqi soccer players have asked that he not use their personal accomplishments for the furthering of the President's political agenda. In fact, many disagree with his agenda."

"The IOC has also renounced President Bush's political use of the Olympics. Not a shocker for one who has continually turned a blind eye to the international community..."

"The President likes to give himself credit for spreading democracy throughout the world. The evidence, unfortunately, shows that the spread of democracy has slowed during his Administration. When Bill Clinton was President, democracy reached Eastern Europe, Yugoslavia, East Timor, among other nations. This represents X countries and X% of the world's population. During President Bush's administration, only 2 countries have become democracies due to American leadership. When I am President, the march to democracy will resume in a safer, more secure world."

"Sadly, this has affected us in profound ways. Within our own hemisphere, Venezuela confronts a situation in which their leader is unresponsive to the people and threatens the world by cutting off vital energy sources. Two of the three nations that comprise the President's "Axis of Evil" now threaten the world with nuclear weapons. All this while the President sits idly and proclaims mission accomplished."

"I would like to close with this message to our athletes. You are performing admirably in these Olympics. Your nation and I are proud of you, and you should be proud of yourselves."

I must admit that Bush is taking a risk by going to the Olympics, and I would expect that Bush would get booed vigorously if he showed his face at the Olympics, but that is just my opinion.

10. Great post!
If Bush does go to Athens, I hope Kerry comes out and says this. Youy should send a LTE to your local paper, too -- you have a way with words!

11. This Needs to Be the Monday Issue
The Dems need to get out in front of this one and stop it before it happens. If he stops it, good, no harm done. If he goes to Athens, Dems run the risk of having footage of a cheering crowd in Athens while Bush is around. That would be spun in the media to suggest that Bush is well-liked abroad.

8. The talking point for tomorrow will be...
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 11:32 AM by LowerManhattanite
"The Swift Boat guys are reprehensible--just like their counterparts at MoveOn. We can't have these unfettered groups making wild claims and using millions of dollars to smear the candidates."

The Sh*tVets stinkbomb has blown up in their face and they'll now try to use it's debris to take down MoveOn. Trouble is...MoveOn has NOT produced a swiss-cheesy, duplicitous, and dirty, invective filled ad like the BC '04/Sh*tVet crew has. Plus, NO MoveOn ad got the exposure this piece of crap did. Remember...it was only on in four states--the in-the-pocket media replayed it nationwide giving it a wider reach.

To blunt the heavy "astroturfing" and RW Talk backlash that's sure to come Monday after this weekend Sh*tVet credibility massacre, some of the press'll gladly buy into the "Don't give MOveOn a free pass either" spin.

But the MoveOn ads'll continue because they have soooooooo much more true and indisputable fodder to hoist the boy emperor on his petard for. A few things?

1.) Sh*tty job creation.
2.) No Child Left Behind (or "No Child's Behind Is Left With Enough Funding").
3.) The Iraq Debacle (Mission Accomplished--I Just Got a Great Deal From Geico!).
4.) Bush costing us our standing in the world.
5). The chilling of dissent/draconian Patriot Act.
6.) His ridiculous number of vacations with the country on alert.
7.) His forced (and just about illegal) infusion of religion into the political discourse.
8.) Halliburton. Halliburton. HALLIBURTON!
9.) His clear (and video documented) favoritism of the rich over the poor and middle class.
10.) His inablity to analyze a changing/deteriorating situation and actually acknowledge the error and make the necessary adjustments.

Ten things right there that MoveOn can LEGITIMATELY tear him a new *sshole for. Every one of 'em factual and documented. Didn't even mention his going AWOL or the clod's drunken stumblebum speaking style. They want to trash MoveOn because MoveOn's got so much more ammo to factually shotgun Dubya's *ss with.

A biblical quote comes to mind here (as it's Sunday and all) for what Bushco and crew have done here:

"For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.". ~ Hosea 8:7
