GOP plans to "ride the wave" of convention protest
TACTICS ALERT: The GOP plans to use any disorder outside the GOP convention against JK.

Snips from todays page one NYT article:

"Mr. Bush's advisers said they were girding for the most extensive street demonstrations at any political convention since the Democrats nominated Hubert H. Humphrey in Chicago in 1968. Republicans said they would seek to turn any disruptions to their advantage, by portraying protests by independent activists as Democratic-sanctioned displays of disrespect for a sitting president.
Mr. Bush's advisers said the perceptions of the success of the convention would be set as much by what happened on the stages of Madison Square Garden as what happens outside. Republicans made clear they would seek to link Mr. Kerry and the Democratic Party to any disorder.
Another senior convention organizer said: "You know the protesters are going to be here. You know you're going to have a full story. I look at that as a wave: not a wave to stand in front of, but a wave you have got to ride."

Norman Mailer:

"Just keep thinking how much the Republicans want anarchy on the street. I say, don’t march right into their trap."

As in a game of chess, we need to anticipate the other players moves in advance.

10. To make the most of things if the cops overreact
Play dress up. Dress like you're going to a job interview. Dress like you're on trial for murder. Dress like a REPUGLICAN, ferkrissakes.

Cops beating scruffy kids and sloppy middle aged people play well for the constipated middle Americans who support the GOP. Cops beating on solid citizens will play very badly for them.

Please trust me on this one.

15. I don't think the NYPD are especially happy with Republicans
and will be nice. They are a good bunch. They aren't anybody's private army.

16. Yeah! It's not like the convention is in Tampa...
the repugs are using their basic big bully tactics. I'm holding my breath for the protesters.

I know it was peaceful for the most part on Feb15,2003 when my sister and I were there..almost a million people.

But I read later that there were some instances of police on horses and protesters against a wall. I think a few were cuffed.

It's always the few, as we know, who the most focus is turned on.

3. Oh OK ...
* can't control the SBV, but Kerry can control tens of thousands of protesters.

That's saying alot right there about leadership.

4. won't they be 'caged'
in a special area for protesters? if not, it's a perfect opportunity to plant some fake gop volunteer mock protesters to make the legit look bad, imho.

9. Just remember...
If the trouble makers are wearing Dockers and Bruno Magli shoes, there's a good chance they are repub plants. Keep your eyes open. Randi did a bit on this last week. ;)

12. They are a bit smarter than that.
They'll dig out pictures of Haight-Ashbury circa 1968 and scour the thrift shops.

Mind, I said a BIT smarter. But not much.

Dead giveaway: granny skirt, flowers in hair, Kate Spade purse!

11. Posted yesterday and it dropped like a rock, but this needs to be seen.
I nominated it for the homepage.

This just frosts me big time. You KNOW they will have troublemakers planted in the crowds.

Please, everyone, keep your cool. The FBI is already investigating groups that plan to protest.

CodePink is organizing lots of pre-protest activities, including training sessions on legal rights.

I'd love to be at the FAUX News "Shut Up-a-thon."

Protestors; your Constitution thanks you, and so does a grateful nation.

13. The Mailer article should be copied and given to every single
protestor.

Excellent article that I hadn't seen. Thanks for the link.

14. This is ridiculous
The Dems had protesters at their convention. It was double stupid for them to announce their intentions. Now all the protest group leaders know what to do. 1. Ask people to dress up now down. 2. Be peaceful. 3. Incircle the disrupters and turn them in. 4. If there is any trouble fax the press a statement blaming it on Bush/Cheney campaign infiltrators. BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!

17. Be careful!
It would only take a few Freeper cops to start a mess. Most of the cops are going to be OK, but it only takes that fringe few. Be careful not to overreact. This is a more dangerous threat than the Repug provocateurs who will be in the crowd.
