The one photo op that the McCain campaign does not want ?
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 09:25 PM by kentuck
And they will do whatever within their power to prevent it. It would be the video or photo of Barack Obama speaking to the troops in Iraq. They would prefer a photo over the video. But if the troops in Iraq show enthusiastic support for Barack Obama, it makes a statement about John McCain's position on the war, also.

That will have to be of great concern to John McCain and Karl Rove if that happens. If they can find a way to control the coverage, they will. They may limit it to photos only? It would not be as damaging as the video to the McCain campaign. They would prefer no coverage. The commanding could get the orders from on high to control the situation and not to permit any cameras while Obama is visiting? I would not be surprised.

This could be why the McCain campaign is so intent on tearing down Obama before he sets foot on the Iraqi soil. If they could get a few troops to boo him, that would be ideal. But, to have hundreds or thousands of troops cheering wildly for Barack Obama in the middle of McCain's and Bush's war would say a lot - much more than the McCain campaign would like.

1. Maybe that's why the treasonous shitstains in the McCain camp ...
released Obama's travel plans despite a long standing admonition by the military to NEVER give advance notice about a trip to the AOR. Fuck 'em!

2. I'd say you may be right.
They want to change his travel plans or change the "security" arrangements.

so why are you surprised? They have no principles. They have no respect, nor are they deserving of any.

5. Who said anything about being surprised?
Hell, this is exactly the kind of behavior I've come to expect from these bastards.

4. They Have Absolute Control of the Coverage Over There
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 09:17 PM by AndyTiedye
If Obama is allowed to speak to the troops, their officers will order them to stand at attention the whole time to ensure that there can be no show of support.

No pictures can get out of there without their approval either, so nothing that will inconvenience the McInsane campaign will make it back here.
Video? Faggedaboutit!

6. Something like that...
No outward displays of emotion because of the political effect it may have back home, or some such rot. That's exactly what they will do.

8. This should be interesting.
If authorized media video cameras are off limits, will all cell phones be, too?

Might too large a crackdown on the media become a big story in itself?

I predict plenty of control, but not a full scale shut down.

And if still photos are allowed, these images might very powerful.

9. It is my understanding that most of the major networks are there...
with Obama. And I never knew them to leave home without their cameras? :-)

10. Still photo: Obama holding injured Iraqi child, US soldiers nearby.
Imagine the number of striking photos that might, and probably will, be taken and distributed.

Obama speaking with a few troops, with a few Iraqi citizens, with the wounded.

I can't wait!

to make it look like Obama is being cheered by the Mahdi Army.

15. I don't expect anything other than professionalism from the soldiers
at least during any event where a large number of soldiers are present. There might be smiles from soldiers in more intimate exchanges, however.

16. I got excited when Obama said he was going to "thank the troops"
Imagine throngs of young American soliders flocking to hear from a REAL leader in Obama and the images that will send to America. WOW.

Called it being voluntold. They'll ask for volunteers to appear with the Senator than pick people and tell them exactly how to behave during any speech.

18. I think a picture of this soldier saluting Obama
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 11:14 AM by Phx_Dem
would send McCain into convulsions. Hopefully, someone got one.

"By 3:03 p.m., the senator was on the aircraft, having been saluted by a member of the military on his way aboard."

The military doesn't salute civilians that are not the Commander in Chief, so I think this speaks volumes about the respect this militiary member has for Obama. :patriot:
