I don't think the e-mail about Al-Maliki saying we should withdraw in 16 months was accidently sent to the press. I think it was intentional. Also, there's the seeming about face with Iranian talks.

I think the Repub poobahs know how they've fucked the poor and middle classes, the environment, and our nation's reputation in the world for the last eight years. Longer, if you go back to Reagan. They don't care, of course, as the Bush administration has been wonderful for them, and them alone. They don't want anything to change. They do know, however, that they are facing a backlash big time. So I think they want Obama to win, knowing that he can't possibly clean up what any normal person would call a catastrphic mess in four short years. No one could. Meanwhile, they obstruct any reform legislation in Congress, something they are very adept at doing even though they are in the minority. Then, in 2012, they hit Obama with everything they have for not solving the country's problems, neglecting to mention that their ideology caused the problems in the first place. They will rely on short memories and empty wallets to get their message across. They will spin it as a validation of their ideology, after all. Then, business as usual.

I want to reiterate that the party fat cats are the ones I'm talking about here. Not the average Repub voter who is as bad off as the rest of us. I think they are simply ill-informed and stubborn.

1. I agree, they are looking at the long term
Blame the Democrats for anything that goes wrong as the nation tries to recover, take credit for what goes right and then slip back into power using smoke and mirrors.

2. Once Obama assumes office it will be up to us to see to it that those nefarious plans don't work.

5. I agree.
It will be up to the people to get rid of those in congress that want to support the corporations, and replace them with those who will work for the people. We have to keep writing to our congress person and make them stand up for the people and this country!

3. I tend to agree with you.
If McCain won, and that isn't going to happen, he would be the one who would be faced with the same situation you sated come 2012. Four years is not long enough to fix the mess we are in. Obama can make changes, and he can do a better job than McCain, especially when the democrats take real control of congress. The problem will be getting Reid and Pelosi to do something right for a change, and back needs of the people of this country. My own personnel view is we need to get rid of Reid and Pelosi, and get new leaders that will stand up to the republicans and kick some ass! Leaders that will work with Obama to make the changes that this country needs, not simply "stay the course" but with democrats in charge! We need to get rid of those in both parties that want to take money from the lobbyists and vote the way they are told to, the way that is good for big corporations, but not for the people of this country!

We can turn this back on the republicans by having a congress and a president that will do what is right, no matter what it takes to change things in D.C.! They have to be tough and they will have to work together to make the changes that will be needed to prevent the republicans from getting back into office in 2012, they can do it, they just need to gets some backbone, and some "REAL" leadership in the party!

6. You're right, of course.
But how do we manage to convince Congressional Democrats that they are the MAJORITY party?

They are satisfied to lose.

8. It is rare for one party to hold the White House for more than
2 terms. One would almost think that there is a "gentleman's" agreement between the powers that be to take turns. I suspect that McCain is the second coming of Dole, kind of token opposition, he's earned the chance to run and unless things really go to hell, like under Carter, the GOP won't mount a real challenge until 2012.

10. In total agreement
Everytime McCain opens his mouth I think to myself, "Is he even trying to win this election?"
