Is media unfair to McCain (a poll that needs hitting big time)
I don't usually ask people to go to these things but the results are at the moment.

Is Democrat Barack Obama unfairly receiving more coverage than Republican John McCain? * 33111 responses

1) Yes, the media has a liberal bias. No one should be surprised by this. 79%

2) No, media coverage is based on newsworthiness. McCain is just not as newsy as Obama. 14%

3) Sometimes, but it's a long campaign. There weren't a lot of McCain complaints during Obama's problems with Rev. Wright.
6.5%

2. The MSM wants an excuse to spend 80% of airtime on McCain
Their stats concerning the time devoted to both McCain and Obama are including all the biased time they spend bashing Obama.

They spend hour after hour over analyzing everything they can think of to use against Obama, and because they hardly mentioned McCain it counts as airtime devoted to Obama instead of McCain.

They think were all a bunch of fools.

They're wrong.

11. that was my thoughts on it also.
the vote should be on negative time vs positive time for both candidates in my opinion.

1)more negative time spent on Obama
2)more negative time spent on McCain
3)more positive time spent on Obama
4)more positive time spent on McCain

3. Why is there no option to say the media is biased TOWARD McCain
This poll is biased in and of itself for not giving us that option.

10. This is the correct response.

It's a "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" poll. Each item makes an unsupported supposition along with its main contention:

1) "The media has a liberal bias" - First off, bullshit. The media is a tool of the right in this country. Secondly, using a hackneyed term like "liberal media" merely invites the lunatic fringe to give their usual knee-jerk response.

2) "Media coverage is based on newsworthiness" - Not in this world, it isn't. Coverage is based on what powerful vested interests want. Otherwise, McCain's manifest unfitness for office would be the top story every day. The reason he isn't getting more coverage is because, whenever he does get coverage, he makes himself look like an unelectable idiot.

3) Is just gibberish and a cheap way of digging up the Rev Wright story again.

There is no possible answer that someone with the most basic political awareness can give to this poll that isn't dishonest.

8. Impressive- even for an obviously bogus poll
full of leading questions.

I guess it's illustrative of how ignorant and susceptible to suggestion and propaganda the vast majority of Americans are these days.

12. I'm wondering if there is a tie in to the NYT
turning down mccain's column he supposedly wrote bashing Obama, since mccain is crying that this is caused by their bias against him. In the meantime, there is an opinion piece in the NYT (on posted on MSNBC) on mccain that is so praising of him and putting Obama down that it made me sick at my stomach. :puke:

14. Of course there is
Meanwhile, the Times publishes dishonest right wing columnists every week and has "journalists" like Adam Nagourney editorializing- and frequently disparaging Dems on the front page. None of that will get a mention.

Nor will it be mentioned that the corporate media willfully fails to report- or under reports on McCain's flip flops or his campaigns astonishingly stupid policy pronouncements and offensive statements.

15. The liberal media (if there ever was one) disappeared
Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 05:20 PM by rebel with a cause
with the independent newspapers. Almost all of them are owned by corporations now and there is no liberal voice left much less any bias. My son works for a newspaper and I get the feeling that they don't even feel free to express their beliefs in the newsroom if they are left leaning, much less put them in writing. He is straight news right now, so there is no reason for him to do political comments, which is probably better since he needs the job.

He says that journalism is dead as far as investigative work is concerned. He wants to find different work (different type of writing/reporting) in a different area, but for now he has to take what he can get. He is an Obama supporter big time, but I don't know if his boss is aware of it. Knowing my son though he probably is.

16. This is a heinous push poll...

It entirely presumes and promotes the notion that the press favors only Obama. This type of polling crap really pisses me off.

You may as well have a poll with the choices:

1. Senator Obama beats his wife regularly.

2. Senator Obama beats his wife sometimes.

3. How can anyone really know how often he beats his wife?

(Sorry, I posted this same response to an earlier version of this topic, but I was still so annoyed that I had to repost it when I saw this repeated thread.)
