I'm listening to the Sarkozy/Obama press conference. Obama sounds so intelligent. He handles it so well.

3. I've always wondered if the day would come when a truly smart &
qualified person would ever be elected president. It looks like it might happen this time.

5. Bill Clinton was smart & far more qualified
and to be fair, his foreign policies were resoundingly successful.

His domestic and trade policies, on the other hand... well, let's just say that if Obama is elected that he isn't seduced into making the same shortsighted corporatist mistakes.

6. His foreign policy sucked, get real
If he hadn't banged the bio/chem drum on Iraq long after there was a threat, we wouldn't be in this mess today. If he hadn't put the oil companies over the taliban, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in with Afghanistan. He didn't put any hard regulations in the China trade agreements. Every problem we have today was put in place by Bill Clinton for the benefit of the Bushes.

The effort in the Balkans was (if late) an amazing feat that would be hard for anyone in history to have matched. Let's also not forget that he nearly had the Israeli's and the Palestinians in a historic deal.

Then of course, there was Northern Ireland. That's worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize.

14. Those were good
But not particularly beneficial in the long term. The harm he did isn't offset by the good, and I suspect Ireland was just plain ready for peace. Also, Israel wasn't anywhere near ready for a deal, both sides were playing games all along. Read Madelaine Albright's book. It wasn't Clinton's fault or responsibility, just the way it is. Clinton allowed global corporate philosophy to rule foreign policy and there will be no progress for humans as long as that happens.

10. That would be a character flaw that no one outside of the puritanical pornograhers
in America gives a rats ass about.

One of MANY ways that other western nations behave more rationally than the United States.

11. So the Rhodes scholar who was the only Democrat to be elected president twice in the last 50 years,
and who left office with an incredibly high approval rating, wasn't "truly smart" enough for you?

4. Sarkozy seems like a high school kid bouncing around on the stage/podium
Its the first time I've really seen him for longer than a sound bite.

Obama seems presidential and Sarkozy seems like a High School president.

13. Obama is better than that: our expectation have been lowered by Dubya.
At last, someone who acts, thinks and talks like a good, intelligent president.
