Rec'd two copies of 'Barack Blew Off the Troops in Afghanistan'
from friends today. One from a Republican, the other from a Southern Democrat. I sent them copies of the Snopes.com "false" report.

It is upsetting that people can be so gullible OR is it that they really want to believe Obama is the Manchurian candidate?

is encouraging his readers to use it anyway. Because that's the GOP's morals, in a nutshell. Why don't we come up with an email about how McCain groped a female, or something? We all know he has no respect for women--his wife being a cunt and all.

On edit--As an equivalent, imagine Skinner encouraging the entire site to send out fraudulent smear emails--I can't.

7. Instead of making up stories, why don't we just put together an
email of the facts.

McNuts was agressivly against Shrub's tax cuts...until he began running for Prez.

McNuts was against drilling offshore untill he decided this would be good for his campaign.

McNuts was for gay rights untill he was told he can't win the Pub vote!

You get the idea. He has so many flip-flops it should be an interesting email, and snopes or any other fact check would be able to find it FALSE!

9. I'm serious, but what I'd like to do is send it anonomyously. I don't
know how to do that. If I send something like that to people I know, they'd dismiss it without even checking because they know I'm a Dem. I'd have to send it without them knowing who it came from.

3. But we NEED to SWIFTBOAT in Retaliation
The GOP just wants the idea floating out there. We need to hit McCain as a traitor or something with some real teeth. Obama shouldn't and can't do it. The Dem strategists claimed they knew how to handle this nonsense, all I see is a couple feeble attempts to convince people he loves the troops. It's a lie, don't engage it. Change the subject by attacking. Make the media focus on smears against McCain.

5. Not a smart move
Take your lead from Obama and Hagel: McCain is an honorable man running a dishonorable campaign. McCain can do better than this. He's skating on thin ice with some of these ads that just aren't acceptable.

In other words, the more you can sound like a winner, the more other people will see that McCain is a loser.

11. We Need a Juicier Story...
I agree, you don't have the candidate do it. Nor his campaign. But hitting back hard is only way to stop this stuff. There's too much riding on this to let him get swiftboated. Here's clear deception on the part of McCain. On This Week they talked about it and didn't even mention the Pentagon's involvement. You fast and hard attacks that drive the media's attention. People get confused (I'm not suggesting you, just people in general) that the media is out to get someone. No, usually they just want the juiciest story. So, you have to generate the buzz. The GOP are experts at this (it's how they win on the Federal level). I just don't know why Dems have to be moral losers. Again, sorry to belabor the point, but a war and healthcare really do ride on the outcome of this election. Obama may be able to win without some people backing him up, but we can't risk it. Give Obama something to denounce.

21. Don't "Swiftboat" McCain, DAISY Him!
The scariest thing about McCain is his temper. Letting him near The Football would be a Very Dangerous Thing.

:nuke:

We need to remind people of this fact…

…the way we reminded them that it would be dangerous to elect Barry Goldwater in 1964:

22. I like the Idea
I think his temper may just get the best of him before this is over. Hopefully, it will set in that he'll never get to be President and he'll go on a tirade. We just need a cell phone there to cover it. ...But getting back to your point, his anger is good angle as well. Softer than I would take for this level of shit throwing by McCain but good nonetheless. My thought about hitting hard back is to send a signal. The McCain operation is under the impression (perhaps correctly) that the Dems aren't organized enough or tough enough to create a story.

4. Did you hear anything back from them? I received the same email
from a Pub friend yesterday, and did the same as you did. I have to say I felt a bit proud of myself that I replied to "all" and there were 16 others who also got my reply, but I havent heard back from any of them. I honestly wonder if they're so unrealistic that they think what I sent wasn't true, and still believe what they sent is right.

The Democrat sent a cute photo series of a polar bear playing with sled dogs.

The debunking of this is already out there and it will catch up with the loons sooner or later. It just underscores how desperate McBush is.

16. Debunking Keeps the Story Alive
That's the nasty nature of complete bullshit sensationalism. It isn't a secret, it's just not everyone's cup of tea...you need surrogates unaffiliated ready to create bullshit sensationalism about McCain. The media is just following a story, so you need to give them a new one. The only way to make certain you'll get their attention is to do like McCain and make it dirty.

17. well the good news is that I doubt many in the MSM will bother to correct it
Which, if your theory is true, will probably be just about right. Look to Olbermann, Stewart, or Colbert to spank McBush on this.

18. You Make a Good Point
We haven't had Olbermann, Colbert and Stewart before. They were there in 04, but not nearly as influential (Colbert was still on the DS I think). Olbermann has some sway and Stewart definitely does. I hope they're enough.

Anyone who is buying into this tripe cannot be bothered with truth. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the majority of those who are circulating this crap don't even believe it themselves.

19. You're Right But That Isn't Who They're After
Remember, most people aren't paying close attention, they're going for the low information voters. They put enough crap out there and they can get some traction with this nonsense. But, I do think you're right about McCain and others not believing it themselves.

23. I think we need to start sending them our own email.
Since they like to hear outrageous things that Obama has allegedly done or is allegedly going to do, let's give them one.

Did you know that when Obama is elected president, the telecoms companies are going to cut off internet service to anyone who has sent those anti Obama emails around? He's going to have the NSA identify all of them, and have the FBI contact the internet providers and have all those persons banned from internet service or email service. The basis will be that they willingly and knowingly passed false information in an attempt to slander a political candidate.

The telecoms will go along, so they don't get prosecuted with the Bush administration for spying illegally on citizens.

24. Try sending them the MilitaryTimes article....
Complete with a retraction from the asshole who started the whole thing!

“I am writing this to ask that you delete my e-mail and not forward it, after checking my sources some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong. This e-mail was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the e-mail and if there are any blogs you have my e-mail portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.”

"These comments are inappropriate and factually incorrect,” Bagram spokesman Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green told the New York Daily News."

25. I think your reference to the letter in the military times
is fine as is a reference to Snopes.

My point is that Obama beat Hillary by making it seem like she was the one attacking and he was above it all.

I see the same thing happening with McCain. Of course McCain is spewing lies, but when Hagel and Reed refuted those lies, they did so more effectively than I thought possible. By saying that McCain is better than this, they made McCain seem desperate without having to spell it out. Poor McCain looks like a loser while Hagel, Reed, and Obama look like reasonable adults who can be trusted to run the country.
