McCain Camp Taken Aback by Charges of Racism
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 04:45 PM by Bullet1987
I know a lot of DU has been good and pissed today, but in an interesting turn of events...the McJoke camp seems VERY defensive today on the issue of race. As if they didn't see the dialogue turning in this direction. Hardball today was filled with questions about whether or not McCain or Obama were playing the race card. Shrum definently said they were, and even though Michelle Bernard disagreed that the ad wasn't racist...she said Obama is showing that he won't be Willie Horton'd. This is why one of McJoke's people blew up today on MSNBC, they didn't see this coming. Many Democrats (as seen here on DU) do think in fact the ad has racial undertones. Obama could be hurt by this, but I don't know...I don't think McCain will come out of this unscathed either. It's HIS ad after all, not a 527s...and he said today very quickly that he was proud of it.

We'll have to wait and see.

1. It's interesting, all righty.
McCain can't afford to look like a racist, among all his other problems. As was apparent in the Andrea Mitchell/Rick Davis confrontation earlier today, if the press corpse decides that the McCain campaign is going racial, they'll abandon him like rats leaving the Titanic.

3. I don't think they'll allow this to be put fully on McCain
They'll try to add Obama into it to tarnish them both. Which is why they keep bringing up Obama's joke about the dollar bill.

4. they are only surprised that people called them on their shameless codewords

they expected to get clean away with it.

These are the same people who accused McCain of having a black baby in 2000. And the Harold Ford--Call me! spot. Racism is their only tactic.

5. On Hardball, they just had to defend that the ad WASN'T racist
and Barnacle played a clip of the Harold Ford ad. Pundits now have to DEFEND for the ad, goes to show you McJoke didn't expect the rhetoric to turn against him. We have to thank Dems like Rachel Maddow and a couple others who have said on TV that the ad is raciall-charged.

6. Hear, hear. They knew what they were doing, and embraced its implications.
Their deniability now is just not plausible.
