Surprised That McCain Is Going Shock and Awe Right Now - Would Have Waited
We all knew that when McCain hired Rove's proteges, they would eventually go shock and awe and smear the crap out of Obama, and that would result in a dip in Obama's poll numbers. My question is why right now, before the convention, at such a rapid pace? The race card talking point is effective, but eventually short lived, so long as Obama does not take the bait, and he won't.

In other words, while Big Media will happily report these attacks, the American public is going to start getting fatigued. Its like crying wolf. I actually do expect McCain's poll numbers to surpass Obama's at some point in the campaign, however, why go all out right now?

My take is that Rove's proteges, like Rove, also have a lot of ego, and they wanted to show John McCain some immediate results. In other words, its "look! we changed the dynamics of the race." However, if Rove was running things, he would have paced himself a bit, rather than shooting talking points in rapid succession, particularly the race card.

You can get mileage over the race card, but in July! Save it for October! Now, in October when Obama talks about GOP fear mongering, McCain can't use the race card talking point.

So, I see it as Rove's proteges being insecure, and going shock and awe right now, because you can't keep up this pace through November. People will simply get fatigued even though the MSM will eat it up.

1. It smells like desperation from the McCain camp.
I believe Obama and his people know what they are doing and will win in Nov.

2. I think it's going to be fairly sustained from here out. They will rise and fall in tone, but there
will be a constant barrage of this stuff.

5. True, But The Pacing Is A Bit Fast At This Stage Before The Convention
If I were going to go shock and awe, I would do so at the convention, rather than start the rapid fire this far out, because while effective, the public can't keep up with the pace of talking points. You want your spike in the polls AFTER the DNC convention, not before.

The RNC convention will also give McCain a spike as well as the announcement of McCain's VP, but those are set in stone. Going kitchen sink now at this pace? I would have slowed the pace a bit if I were McCain.

3. He has resorted to the kitchen sink strategy.
Hopefully he will play his entire hand now so nothing is left in October.
