1. McCain's favorability is up, too -- to 57% -- and I don't understand that.

2. Relax... this is tracking just like the 1980 election.... only in reverse

In 1980... Americans were "scared" to try Reagan.... until he creamed Carter in the October debate.

America had already decided it had had enough of Jimmy Carter... it just wasn't sure if Reagan was too "risky".

We are in the exact opposite scenario now. America has already decided it doesn't want a continuation of Bush. It just hasn't yet become convinced that Obama is "up to the task".

In the next 95 days, America will be convinced.

These polls don't worry me.... not when you consider that 30% of whites think Obama is muslim radical.

3. I thought Carter won those debates
The press kept screaming the opposite and convinced the public that Reagan was the Great Communicator. I thought he was an embarrassment every time he opened his mouth.

But that's irrelevant. What did happen, according to some analyses, was that the Carter campaign made the mistake of painting Reagan as scary and wild eyed, so his manner and onscreen persona during the debates had a huge impact on those viewers who were prepared to be scared of him.

We'll see if the equivalent opinion switch happens this time around -- the scary black man Moslem terrorist instead is revealed to be a calm, thoughtful, intelligent American guy.

4. There was only one debate.... and after it, Reagan's numbers shot up dramatically

America was able to "envision" him as President.

Same wil happen with Obama.
