McCain's "Country First Concert" Only Gets Hundreds Of People

Despite having the free entertainment of country music star John Rich, premiering his new song paying tribute to the candidate, the Washington Post reports that a McCain rally in the Florida Panhandle was only able to attract several hundred people. That's just a tiny fraction of the thousands of people who typically show up for John Rich at his own concerts -- meaning that John McCain is a serious drag on any marquee bill.

This is especially funny since a favorite Freeper diss for Obama is that the thousands who show up to see him only come for the musical entertainment...

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/

.....................................................................................................................

With that, country music star John Rich launched into a spirited "Country First" concert on behalf Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tonight featuring his number-one hit "Lost in This Moment with You" and the debut of a song he had written especially for the presumptive GOP nominee, "Raising McCain."

The free concert, sponsored by the Florida Republican Party, attracted several hundred people including a fan sporting a homemade T-shirt saying, "Don't let the USA become an Obama-Nation."

The 34-year old Rich, saying he was feeling "a little feisty," delivered a tune about American conquest with the introduction, "Here's an oldie but goodie about America kicking a little butt."

Before playing Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line," he declared that the song was tantamount to a McCain endorsement.

"Somebody's got to walk the line in the country. They've got to walk it unapologetically," he said. "And I'm sure Johnnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."

Actually, Cash backed Democratic president Jimmy Carter. And Rich himself supported former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson's bid for the GOP presidential nomination this year, calling him the "only true conservative" in the 2008 Republican primary, until Thompson dropped out of the race.

Not enough people care enough about seeing John McCain (or what he has to say) to draw a huge crowd even when a country music star is the warm up.

Some Republican shill was on MSNBC talking about the fact that the 200,000 people in Berlin for Obama were only there because of the rock bands who performed before! I don't know who she was
(Repub), but it was obnoxious.

Edit: can't spell

The attendance is pitiful there was enough room for the McCain bus to drive up to the stage. You couldn't get this through the crowd at an Obama Rally.

Rich’s musical partner, Big Kenny Alphin, was not at the Country First concert, and is reported to have given money to the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama.

50. And lyrics!!
RAISIN’ MCCAIN
Music and lyrics by John Rich

Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Well he got shot down in a Vietnam town
Fighting for the red, white and blue
And they locked him up in the Hanoi Hilton
Thinking they could break him in two

He stayed strong, stayed extra long
‘Til they let all the other boys out
Now we’ve got a real man with an American plan
We’re going to put him in the big White House

Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Play that American guitar, son
And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way

We’re all just raisin’ McCain
I said we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Well you can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

I don't think the choice of lyrics quite fits as a dedication/tribute for McCain!

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

"Remembering Johnny Cash"

"Cash said in his 1997 autobiography "Cash" that he tried to speak for "voices that were ignored or even suppressed in the entertainment media, not to mention the political and educational establishments."

<snip>

"He also wrote books including two autobiographies, and acted in films and television shows. In his 1971 hit "Man in Black," Cash said his black clothing symbolized the downtrodden people in the world. Cash had been "The Man in Black" since he joined the Grand Ole Opry at age 25."

"During a talk radio appearance in Nashville to support Thompson, Rich compared legalizing gay marriage to legalizing incestuous relationships. He later apologized, saying the remarks didn't "reflect my full views on the broader issues regarding tolerance and the treatment of gays and lesbians in our society."

51. Johnny's own words. Why he wore black.
This is dedicated to McCain's $500 shoes-

The Man In Black- By Johnny freak'n Cash:

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.
