I Was Talking To A Friend Today And Was Surprised He Doesn't Like Obama.....
when I asked why - he said Obama was a flip-flopper. I told him if anybody was a flip-flopper it was McCain and I went on to tell him about a list of at least 27 times McCain flip-flopped. I asked him for an example about Obama and he said the following:

"Well his(Obama's) latest flip-flop is on oil-drilling."

I couldn't respond because I had heard nothing of this. Did Obama change his views on oil-drilling recently?

1. No...he just supported a compromise to allow a big energy bill to pass...
throwing a bone to the repukes in order to get some stuff in return.
We come out the winners on this, but it's easy to pretend it's a 'flip-flop'

7. In Further Discussion With Him I Found Out He Listens To Right Wing MSM.......
Fox News. Rush. Hannity.

He totally drinks the cool aid.

All I asked him after I learned this is that he be open minded and listen to Progressive Radio and take in DU - just to get another perspective.

I'm troubled by this because he's essentially voting against himself and doesn't really know. I'm finding out that most people aren't like us that frequent DU. They get their info from a few sources and think they are well informed.

The other night I had dinner with a very successful owner of a very successful private company. He's a staunch Repug and he made an unsolicited comment that he doesn't even listen to the news or read newspapers anymore. I don't engage him into any political conversations - because he is a client - and I don't want to rock the boat. (I know call me a whore.) So I don't go into politics. I learned early in my relationship with him that he has very definite and pig-headed views that are contrary to mine.

I believe he doesn't listen to news or read newspapers because he doesn't want to face the truth about *Co, the lies, the spying, the torture, the outing of CIA agents - because he voted for * and doesn't want to face the fact that he was wrong. So its easier for him not to go there.

My neighbor is also a staunch Repug. He has 4 kids - two boys in college and two girls - one in high school and one in grammar school. He recently had to close his business and get a real job that he hates - but he needs to pay the bills. If anyone is voting against themselves by supporting the Repugs - its him. But I can't talk sense into him.

Bottom line - here are three examples of Americans that are not going to vote for Barack Obama or any Dem for that matter. And all three come at it from very different angles. One from struggling all his life to make ends meet. The second from being an entrepreneur and losing a business. And the third being highly successful. Three socio-economic backgrounds and all going to vote Repug come November.

This is starting to worry me as to the Dems chances in November. I thought it would be a slam dunk and a landslide - and now I'm not so sure.

9. This is what he said
AP

"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done."
(snip)

The plan also includes energy initiatives Obama has endorsed. "It would repeal tax breaks for oil companies so that we can invest billions in fuel-efficient cars, help our automakers re-tool, and make a genuine commitment to renewable sources of energy like wind power, solar power, and the next generation of clean, affordable biofuels," Obama noted.

"Like all compromises, it also includes steps that I haven't always supported," Obama conceded. "I remain skeptical that new offshore drilling will bring down gas prices in the short-term or significantly reduce our oil dependence in the long-term, though I do welcome the establishment of a process that will allow us to make future drilling decisions based on science and fact."

The part in bold was omitted or in whole or in part in most AP versions though...when they talk about the other things in the plan they don't quote him, don't say he has endorsed them and only mention a couple,

They leave out the next quote as well as noted in this diary
