General on CNN - Did I just hear that right?
Did he say the surge, ALONG WITH A WHOLE LIST OF OTHER FACTORS, has contributed to success in Iraq?

3. Well, I was talking with my Brother in Law yesterday online.
He's a gunner and stationed in Quwait.. but travells with convoys into Iraq. He says that some Iraqi's are happy that they are there or there would be complete chaos.. and he doesn't see the "positive" signs of the surge. The other day they were almost killed. I told him sometimes countries need to figure things out.. Now, I don't want to see mass genocide (I suppose we are kinda doing that indiscriminantly). And I told him, we are spending 10 billion a month. We can't keep it up. There govt wants to start withdrawl along with ours and for other countries to come and help with re-building and etc. I said our country is crumbling. You just got a promotion, most Americans are getting pink slips. Its the only sector in our economy that is "growing".

At the end of the day, he doesn't want to be there. Thinks its stupid and that the commanders have them do stupid shit. AND 18mos. is a long time to give your life to. But he doesn't see any progress.. just useless missions and waste of time.

4. 2-star named Hertling (sp?)
Yeah. That seemed to be an intelligent and well thought answer. Our military people are, of course, much more honest and intelligent than our current in-power political leadership. :)

6. I didn't believe this, but I did find it to be true
when I was in the Army. I found I really liked a lot of military people, and they were honest, upright and good people, not at all like the few actual politicians I have met, whe lived up to or exceeded their reputation as scum.
