Hey - Did Obama "reverse himself" re: town hall meetings with McCain?
Last night on the radio, that was how AP news puts it:

"Obama reverses himself regarding town hall meetings...." and went on to say that he'd agreed to them previously.

I don't recall him agreeing to it -- do you?

Our local news said "Obama backing away from town meetings with,.,," Which pissed me off, too -- bad choice of words.

I realize it doesn't really matter if he did or didn't agree, they'll say it however they want, but...

:grr:

1. The media will frame it however the McSausage campaign wants them to.

They take the GOP talking points as fact.

7. What made me literally sit up in bed,
was not just the framing of it, but the outright incorrect message -- that he had agreed previously.

We are more aware than the Associated Press is.

8. AP does not exist to be aware of anything. They exist as the mouthpiece of the Republican party

11. And although I know better,
I come from the days of "real" news and reporting, so I find myself still holding up the media to standards. :banghead:

2. I don't remember
that he agreed to it. In fact I sort of got the impression he nixed the whole idea early on.

3. Obama never agreed to town hall meetings
He still is not agreeing to town hall meetings. Unless something changed since 10:00 AM today, since that was the last time my teevee was on.

5. The AP story came out and said he HAD previously agreed.
I KNEW he hadn't! It's one thing to paint a picture with a choice of words (like the local news -- "backing away from") but it really pissed me off that they said something inaccurate. It's supposed to be the NEWS! :grr:

4. No, Obama said each campaign had engaged in discussion.
It appeard McLame was the one who was show-boating and not really serious about doing them himself. AND that's what I heard today on the local rag Bay Snooze 9 when the idiots tried to pin it on Obama.

9. This is what I remember
McCain came up with the idea. Had his staff member handing the proposal in hard copy to Obama's office. The Obama camp said that they were studying the proposal but were against the numerous events that the McCain camp had proposed.

The story then died.

10. The Town Hall Meetings would be a waste of Obama's
time. There are a lot more important meeting for him to attend. McCain is just looking for a chance to get more exposure. I think the three debates will settle the issue as to who is the most knowledgeable.

13. I believe he said the town halls would be a great idea.
I'm not voting puke, but damn, it sure would be nice to back someone who takes a stand and then stands by it.

16. Do you have a reputable link documenting that he agreed to the town halls?
If not, I stand by my memory that he never agreed to any joint town hall appearances with McCain.

17. The fact that SI's post still stands in a testament to this board..
Would've been deleted if it was against Clinton.

14. they said this on my local news too. Fuckin' AP.
Robert Gibbs on Morning Joe said that the Obama campaign had sent their own proposal for three town hall style events to the McCain campaign, and the McCain campaign never responded. He said this to the McCain campaign's Wallace and said "Would you like me to publicize the letter we sent to the McCain campaign, which the McCain campaign never responded to?" I think that the McCain campaign was only willing to do them if they were under their terms.

15. I'd love to have seen that -- what did Wallace say/do?
I can only imagine what "McCcain's terms" would be. :eyes:
