There is no doubt in my mind McCain suffers from PTSD.
My father suffers from PTSD and I've discussed his issues here before. I've seen the signs most my life and they are not pretty. I have no doubt, with all McCain went through, he, too, suffers from these damning demons.

I also know my father can, at times, lose all stability. It doesn't take much for that trigger and when he does lose it, watch out, because he becomes an entirely different person, someone you can't reason with. McCain, like my father, probably is normal most of the time, but when you're president of the United States, it only takes one retread to end it all. The older he gets, the harder it will be to fight back these demons and that could have devastating consequences when you're leading the United States.

McCain is too unstable to be president.

2. At least he'l keep us safe from the "gooks"...
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 02:41 PM by MercutioATC
When I read that he said recently on his campaign bus that he'll always hate the "gooks" (and later clarified that as an undying hatred for his prison guards) I was shocked.

It's akin to saying that I was mugged and severely beaten by a group of black gang members when I was younger, so I'll always hate "niggers"...but I'm only calling my muggers "niggers".

McCain needs a shock collar and a competent handler...and somebody that needs that kind of watching is in no shape to be President.

3. PTSD + (likely) early-stage dementia = total disaster.
The media is literally propping up McCain like a scarecrow. I think it's pretty well understood, behind the scenes, that whomever McCain chooses as a running mate will be the de facto President if he wins.

Sounds eerily familiar, doesn't it?

21. I was referring to Bush II/Cheney, more so than Reagan/Bush I.
Which is to say that Cheney has been the real President all along, while Bush was just an empty suit hyped up by the media.

4. I agree.
I have my own set of problems, and over the years have managed to load a pretty stiff spring under my Temper Button.

But when I go off, even I cannot stand to be around me.

And there is not a damned thing I can do about it.

I imagine McCain's handlers keep several pairs of eyes on him, constantly watching for the tell.

8. That is a good list, most of all
"Negative Persona"

It just struck me when I read what you wrote, but you're right. He has a negative persona. The man is a complete depressive and a downer. His wife looks horribly depressed and seems to be the most unhappy person. I just can't bear the thought of having them in Washington. They are bereft of all joy.

Famed McCain temper is tamed

Calmer side now on display

By Michael Kranish, Globe Staff | January 27, 2008

WASHINGTON - Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, who has known Senator John McCain for more than three decades, on Wednesday endorsed Mitt Romney for president.

Cochran said his choice was prompted partly by his fear of how McCain might behave in the Oval Office.

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran said about McCain by phone. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

10. Yep - that's the one.
I think they've got McCain on Xanax or something. He's too laid back a lot of the time - suspiciously so.

The downside (to McCain) is that he sometimes is almost on the verge of drooling. I'm waiting for him to go ballistic, but I'm not sure if we'll see that.

Thanks for the quote and link! :hi:

But I wouldn't be surprised if it made it worse. That, combined with his age, makes him completely unfit to be president.

Force McCain's hand and he'll select someone they can mold, like Romney.

19. Unfortunately some of the sufferers also work for the media
The political media who told us that McCain was a maverick, hawked his straight talk and told us that an important metric in choosing a president was the one you want to have a beer with. Well, guess what, McCain's wife can supply them beer all night and I think they like it better than Kool-aid. In return, they report that McCain "flubbed" or "misspoke" rather than reporting that McCain would lick the bathroom floor to become president.

24. He might have issues with PTSD. His unstable temperament and his lack of patience are both signs.
His level of unjustified anger, his lack of patience and his quick temper are all signs of PTSD.
As a result, McCain has a problem with dealing with being disagreed with.
He hates to be disagreed with.

When people disagree with him, the first thing McCain does is smile and chuckle to himself - that's a defense mechanism.
What McCain is doing when he chuckles to himself like that is, he is reminding himself that the person who just disagreed with him is an asshole - that's what he is thinking of the other person, whether it is a man, a woman, or a child, while he is thinking of a retort.

25. With Republicans, they'll use McCain's PTSD as an occasion for pity.
I've already heard some of them blame his infidelity with his first wife on his "terrible experience" as a POW...

Forget that as a ploy for us...
