From Jan 20, 2001 to Jan 3 2007, the GOP controlled all aspects of the federal gov't
...and during that time, there was no offshore drilling or drilling in ANWR.

This meme that Democrats are stopping the drilling is a smokescreen.

The GOP doesn't want the drilling any more than we do. They want to lose this battle.

But they want you to think they want to win.

Why?

If you own a commodity... any commodity... and you are making record profits selling a certain amount... why on earth would you deplete your own reserves in order to lower the prices?

Think about it...

The GOP wants you to believe that oil companies WANT to sell you their product at a lower price, make less profit, and deplete their own reserves if only the Democrats would let them.

For 6 years, we were unable to stop them if they wanted to drill. And they didn't drill.

Why?

Because they aren't interested in the oil companies making less profit..... which is the one effect of increased supply they don't want you to know about.

1. and the facts ...
from 2001-1/3/2007, the REpublicans quashed any legislation that the Dems put forth.

And George W. Bush threatened to veto anything that would help the general population.

And the Republicans slashed taxes on the Oil companies.

and the Republicans threatened to take away the filibuster.

And the Republicans held hearings where the oil company executives were not bothered to be sworn in.

And the Republicans decided to work the least number of days in 2006, and took an extra-long vacation for the summer.

And then, after 1/3/2007, the Republicans held near-record numbers of filibusters ...

and George W. Bush vetoed many bills put through.

...

2. They also didn't ban abortion or gay marriage
Two things they've been promising their "base" for years.

Of course if they actually followed through on their promises they'd have no carrot to dangle in front of their voters.
