Serious commentary from an pretty disgusted voter here.
For the past couple of weeks and certainly since the Hilton/Spears ad and this tire pressure issue, I have seen more GOP talking heads than ever before. From Romney, Ghouliani, Jindhal, Fiorina, LIEberman, ALL McCain's surrogates, the list goes on and on. After seeing Bill Clinton give a very pathetic show of support for Obama, I asked this question this morning.

Where are our democratic leaders???

All I see on TV from the democratic perspective are Mccaskill, Daschle, Biden (sometimes), and Kerry it seems. Where is Gore? Where are the Clintons? Where is Edwards? Fineman? Reid? Pelosi??? Where are the heavy hitters backing up the nominee so the dems can control the WH again. I know the media is partly to blame but it is not all their fault. It's not as if these people can't request to be on TV if they wanted to.

I am now beginning to wonder if the democrats are ALSO afraid of how serious Obama's "lobbyist" reform is. Could it be that our leaders don't want lobbyists out of the picture or don't like the Washington reformist position of Barack? Maybe big oil and big money is also in the coffers of the democrats; more than we would like to admit.

Let's face it the Dems in the house have been asleep at the wheel ever since taking over. They have shown ZERO leadership on many issues and have been far to passive as McCain has ratcheted up the frivolous and deceptive attacks. So it seems to me that Obama is going to have go at this basically alone.

I for one will be deeply disappointed with the party as a whole if we lose due to lack of our leaderships involvement and/or taking the initiative to support the nominee.

4. um, okay, but since many weren't, a link & details would be a lot more helpful than just "n/t"....
Please provide more details of what it is that you seem to be assuming that we the diverse DU audience are already supposed to know, thanks.

I'm sure it's worthwhile and apropos, I just don't know what you're referring to, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that...

3. Some may be using Obama's Grassroots campaign as a cop-out.
"We win if he/the Grassroots wins and we win if he/they don't win so we can sit this one out."

I personally am quite tired of some people's rather aristocratic attitude toward "the help."

5. True. Where are they. Why do GOP elected officials seem to care more?
I am so disappointed in our party leadership, and I use that term even though it doesn't apply. We have NO party leadership in the House or Senate.

If more elected Democrats don't get off their asses and start helping in the fight, we might as well stop nominating anyone for president and just admit that our leaders are too fucking lazy to fight for the presidency.

7. Covering their asses in case we lose and they have to suck up to Hillary for 2012...
Except Gore, of course, who is doing other things ~ and probably hasn't been asked to participate.

8. Look at their donor lists.
There are corporate names that do not benefit from reform. I don't think Democrats are asleep. Many have been bought. Others are too rich or comfortable to rock the boat.

9. I think everyone including
the candidates have election fatigue. I certainly do. It has been 24/7 for ages. I hope election 2012 doesn't begin the day after Obama takes the oath of office. We have been bombarded with lies from the media. They take one sentence and screw it around until it has no meaning. And I believe they take orders from the one who writes their paychecks. All of it is a farce.

10. Last week, I wrote the entire Democratic leadership and Howard Dean...
I am demanding to know where the Democrats are and why they aren't supporting/defending our nominee!!

Generic letter sent to Democratic leadership/Dean...

Dear _____:

A few years ago, MoveOn.org ran a television advertisement addressing General Petraeus' status report regarding the conditions on the ground in Iraq. The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives responded swiftly, issuing a resolution to condemn MoveOn's ad. Many Democrats joined the Republicans in both the House and the U.S. Senate in support of this resolution.

As you know, Senator John McCain has begun a "low road" smear campaign against our Democratic nominee for president. His negative attack ads are baseless, containing mistruths, accusations and outrageous, incendiary remarks.

I am respectfully requesting that similar action take place in Congress to demand a full, formal apology from Senator McCain and his presidential campaign; specifically, I urge the U.S. House and Senate to issue a resolution condemning John McCain's accusation that Obama "snubbed" U.S.
troops in Germany and suggesting that he would rather win an election and "lose a war."

(Title and Name), I implore you not to allow the swiftboating of Senator Obama as was done to Senator John Kerry in 2004. I, and many concerned voters, call on you to exercise your leadership and respond swiftly and forcefully.

If a formal resolution is not possible, please demand that John McCain retract his outrageous and false remarks and repudiate the smear campaign that he is now leading.

Thank you so very much for your time,

because Obama's coattails are very long. He seems to make sure to give his support to down ticket candidates. Where is our leadership offering their support to him?

18. Actually, we just don't have the venal bastards the GOP does.
To be a good surrogate, you have to be willing to lie, yammer, filibuster, and throw bombs. Dems tend to be polite and reasonable, and stick to fact. It's just not something we're good at.

and some excellent folks like John Kerry, Bill Richardson, and on and on.

We will be fine. But this election won't be won via the media. We have to do the work,
and basically that is what Obama warned us about.

Change won't come easy he said. It will be hard.

23. Saw Bill Richardson on MSNBC today.
He's terrible. The man couldn't argue his way out of a paperbag. I'm sure he's got other great qualities, but he's not a good surrogate.

25. I have to agree with you.. he'a lightweight, and whoever the "questioner" is,
they always mock him..to his face and after he's gone.. :puke:

The problem we have is that aftre 30 years of wandering the wilderness, the people who SHOULD have been coming along all along, were exiled long ago.. The strong voices were kept away from tv & radio, so by now they have all moved on to other things... teaching, writing..business..yyou know..making a living..

people like Chomsky, Zinn, Greenwald, Donahue, Michael Moore, etc.. should have been old tv-pals to us by now, and everyone should have become familiar with their views, but after finally breaking through, when Clinton won, his middle of the road agenda did not inspire many of them, and after the right wingers started in on the Clintons with the impeachment agenda, their voices would not have mattered anyway.. I think now, many of them are not invited, and if they are, maybe they are too afraid of jinxing anything to speak all that forcefully..

People like all the right wingers we know, are not afraid to say anything, because they have numbers behind them.. 30 years worth of monopolizing the public thought...
