OOOPS — He Did It Again

McCain displays his normal “discipline” at a Tuesday tele-town meeting, undermining days of (questionable, desperate, and — apparently — effective) attacks by his campaign and the whole Republican Party on Obama’s call for tire inflation to save fuel.

McCain: “And could I mention that Senator Obama a couple of days ago said that we ought to all inflate our tires, and I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it.”

McCain takes air out of tire pressure debate

<snip>

Predictably, Obama hit back calling McCain’s mockery “ignorant,” arguing his plans were being misrepresented and saying that experts backed his call over tire pressure. Equally predictably, McCain’s camp hit back.

The surprise came during a telephone town hall meeting McCain held on Tuesday with voters in Pennsylvania.

“Obama said a couple of days ago says we all should inflate our tires. I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it,” McCain said.

1. This is not just funny, it's a red flag about their campaign
It now seems pretty clear that McCain is not in charge of his campaign at all, he's just being trotted out by someone else. It seems he didn't know at all about what was going on. Not kidding, there is something very strange about this.

7. McCain is Homer Simpson's angry and senile father
Trent Lott told anyone that cared to hear him that McCain was emotionally unstable, and this was back in 2000!

I agree with Kerry that McCain is too dangerous to have in White House.

13. Yep--his whole campaign is a work of fiction--he's just the main character in it.
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 11:34 PM by wienerdoggie
He doesn't really have ideas or opinions (except for surging forever in Iraq, and bombing Iran)--he's mostly hired those out, which is why he can't remember his positions or Senate votes. He's farmed out his whole campaign to those around him, and he just follows the instructions and mouths the words they feed him. Just like Chimpy. And he's brain-addled, just like Reagan. See a pattern here? The GOPers don't care if their leaders drank and snorted their brain cells away, or are stricken with a mind-eating disease--they know the real power is behind the throne, and the figurehead is just there to be a beloved character who can win the election. The governing is up to others in the party. We're just watching history repeat itself with McDouchebag.

24. this is an extremely concise, well-written summation of all that is wrong,
in literal, moral, and functional terms, of the McCain campaign

you should hang on to it for future reference, because it touches all the relevant bases, with one exception: the fact that his entire modus operandi is the usual repub one.....lie, distort, and repeat until corporate media picks up the dross and runs with it until it's imprinted into the consciousness of unwary news consumers

38. The problem is McSame actually CAN think for himself unlike shrubya..
the chimp could just go out and parrot the talking points and stay on their message, because he actually has no original thoughts in his head. McSame is coming out with some weird hybrid of what they're telling him to say, and then a day or two later he gives his own spin on it...It ends up sounding flippy-floppy and garbled.

Then the Sturgis trip.

Can it get any worse?

He's a puppet. Nothing more. He can't keep anything straight, they seem to prop him up even more than they had to prop up bush in 2000 and 2004. WAY more than they had to prop up bush in 2000.

6. What an embarrasment his campaign is.
And yet, every time they do some idiotic thing, there is a contingent here who scream that the sky is falling, and Obama is going to be the next Kerry.

Come on, people. Did you see McCain at that thing in Montana? He is acting more like Tim Conway's little old man every day! He's just sad, and his campaign is a fiasco.

23. Here's another account of the exchange, from the Inquirer.
In answer to a question on energy conservation, McCain toned down the ridicule he has heaped on Obama in the last week, ever since the Democrat said that properly inflated tires could save as much gas as would be produced by expanded off-shore drilling - which McCain advocates.

"I don't disagree with that; the American Automobile Association strongly recommends it," McCain said of proper tire inflation. "But I also don't think that's a way to become energy-independent."

They can use them as stir-sticks at the RNC convention in St Paul while they fearfully contact hookers on the internet and tap quietly in toilet stalls, hoping the cops won't notice.
