Sort of ironic, really. When old Ronny Rayguns was president of the Screen Actors Guild, James Garner was Vice President. Considering that Mr. Garner has been a devout Democrat for most of his adult life, it is a shame that he never ran for public office.

Now he's definitely THE maverick in my book. Although the horses, car and Tom Cruise are a close second, third and fourth.
