his race on his Harvard Law School application. On so many levels, how cool is that?

1. So dense I don't understand why that fact is worthy of mention in today's NYT
or in any forum or discussion. Can someone clue me? :D

2. Presumably, it means he wasn't relying on his race...

...to obtain favorable consideration under any college scheme aimed at increasing enrollment by minorities. He was applying purely on merit.

In a rational world, this would insulate him from accusations that his achievements were the result of "affirmative action" favoritism. Of course, we don't even live in the same galaxy as a rational world, so...

17. She used that in contrast to McCain's legacy benefits
It was an excellent point to counter claims that Obama wouldn't be where he is if he weren't black.

4. given that we have been told Obama "would not even be in this race if he wasn't black"
I think this is worth repeating again and again

5. Maybe not quite so dense as before but what Obama has accomplished
since his graduation, his understanding, his intelligence, his style, his panache all speak for themselves no matter how he might have gotten into law school. :D

9. The country is full of people who would have done ANYTHING
to get into a law school. That is why there are so many third tier law schools. He is not of that kind.

7. Did you read the linked article to get the context? As to not
mentioning his race, it tells me: a) that he was sure he would get into Harvard Law strictly on his merits-which shows great personal confidence b) that no one can ever play the affirmative action card against him, which may or may not have entered into his decision c) it is in stark contrast to McSame getting into Annapolis on his family name

26. I believe he has said
he benefited from affirmative action.

That said- his qualifications are/ were outstanding.

And as for not stating race - methinks the name would attract attention.

So-ho -hum - what's the big deal.
The man was and is well qualified for anything.

6. Even If He Did, Does Not Matter
He graduated magna cum laude, and was editor in chief of the law review. With that kind of resume, he could be a law professor or federal judge. The dude is smart.

8. As to being a federal judge, the Repukes have been in control
of that process more often than not lately. No question he's smart.

And, of course, he would have no chance getting hired by Goodling in the Justice Department.

12. No, no, it's WORSE than that, don't you see? He was CONFIDENT
he'd get into Harvard Law School. That PROVES he's ALWAYS been presumptuous. And arrogant. And aloof. And Elitist. He thinks he's SMARTER than the average person. And what's worse, he's RIGHT!!!!1111!!!
