Yeah right, McCain's favorite fictional Prez, David Palmer???
Just saw a segment on MSNBC and both candidates were asked who their favorite fictional president was and McCain said David Palmer from 24 (he's kind of mine too). I'm not buying it. Fictitious Palmer was everything that McCain isn't. Maybe he thought he'd get a few minority votes with that declaration.

Obama choice Jeff Bridges character in The Contender.

7. You're right he did
Hmmmm! Do you suppose he's messing with us?

Of course Jeff Bridges president was really cool. So was Andrew Sheppard (Michael Douglas).

10. Loved Andy Sheppard
His best friend was Martin Sheen and he banged Annette Benning in the White House. How cool is that!

14. To Bob Rumson
One of my all time favorite movie speeches:

"We've got serious problems, and we need serious people, and if you want to talk about character, Bob, you'd better come at me with more than a burning flag and a membership card. If you want to talk about character and American values, fine. Just tell me where and when, and I'll show up. This is a time for serious people, Bob, and your fifteen minutes are up. My name is Andrew Shepherd, and I *am* the President."

I never get tired of that movie!

19. My daughter knows a lot of that speech by heart
Often we both say in unison, "My name is Andrew Shepherd, and I AM the President."

Also love the line about the ACLU: "For the record: yes, I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU. But the more important question is why aren't you, Bob? Now, this is an organization whose sole purpose is to defend the Bill of Rights, so it naturally begs the question: Why would a senator, his party's most powerful spokesman and a candidate for President, choose to reject upholding the Constitution?"

I want my politicians to talk like THAT.

Amazing how Obama could say those very words today!
Except for burning flag, he would say flag pin.

20. The movie is very timely
and I can think of a lot of republicans who would fit the Rumson role. Tom Delay pops into my head and there are many more.

4. What a stupid question to ask
With all the problems Americans are facing right now, someone thought "who is your favorite fictional President" was a good idea? I hate crap like that.

8. I think he did
They were talking about his celebrity appearances last night on Verdict and I think 24 was one of them.

McCain's appearance on SNL was actually funny. I wonder what happened to that McCain. Present day McCain is a train wreck.

And as for "24", I'd think he'd be more drawn to President Charles Logan.

23. I swear 24 is Pentagon Propaganda
It's practically a cliche now, but every show seems to involve the ridiculous ticking time-bomb scenario that justifies extra-judicial measures (aka torture).

25. But then they involve
high profile government officials in sinister plots - Chief of staff, VP, president, etc. The "good guy" presidents were the liberal ones, David Palmer and his brother.

The ticking time-bomb crap became redundant and unfortunately too many people (Cheney) took it literally, as well as the over the top torture scense.

29. A lot of the plots were absolutely
ridiculous, but it did have a way of getting me hooked even though every season I say I won't watch it.

James Cromwell also played a bad guy who was one of many gung-ho patriots who think they're doing what is best for their country. They really did mix it up more than they've gotten credit for and they cut out the torture scenes. Their real problem is they've run out of fresh ideas.
