Stepping out on a ill wife with a much younger blond.

Should Republicans attempt to hang Edward's affair over Obama and Dems in general, they should be reminded of their nominee's own past.

That is all I will say about this matter, other than my sympathies are with Elizabeth and other DUers who believed in John.

4. Yes, Edwards has confirmed it.
He will appear on Nightline tonight with all the dreary details. :(

2. Thank you for your kind and considerate post.
The Republicans have no room to talk, their presumed nominee is no better.

Perhaps the Dems will be smart enough to use this to their advantage (for a change).

3. I wish somebody (not BO of course) would do an ad about McCain and women...
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:26 PM by polichick
As far as Edwards is concerned, he had a lot of nerve taking money from hurting Americans and running a campaign that he knew could be derailed at the worst moment. If he had gotten the nomination, we'd lose for sure now. Whew!

6. You can't do it like that.
Remember, Americans rallied behind Clinton when the Republicans went after him over his affair with Monica. You've got to do it far more subtly than that.

12. There should be a standing order among Democratic strategists/pundits...
That if the Republicans go there, Dems will strike right back.

This all could end up being beneficial for the Dems, but it would be very disrespectful to Elizabeth to use it.

15. I bet you're just sick right now
I just defended his ass to my mom who saw the latest NE article about the baby.

I wonder what the landscape in Iowa would have looked like w/out Edwards in the race.

I wonder where his supporters would have gone.

that is where my heart was - and thankfully I got some great pics of myself with him - but I stuck with Edwards due to family and friends.

I am very upset with Edwards right now, and just can't understand how he could do this, and keep on running! I supported him, I defended him, and I feel let down.

Edwards had everything going for him as far as race, gender, appearance... yet for whatever reason he didn't even make it out of Iowa.

30% of Iowa caucus-goers trusted him.

I guess you CAN fool some of the people all of the time

5. I too
Feel for Elizabeth and his children. I was a solid Edwards supporter, and stood behind his denial up till he admitted to the affair today. Once again I am sorry for his family and what they will have to go through. I just can't believe he did this!

10. Let's talk about that some more. McCain had an affair while he was married.
McCain's wife was badly injured in a car accident, and McCain left her for a much younger, wealthier woman. McCain began his affair with the current Mrs. McCain while he was still married to Mrs. McCain #1.

So if it's a travesty that John Edwards did this, then it's equally a travesty that John McCain did it.

11. Only time will tell. Will Edwards abandon his family to marry his fling like McCain did?
Probably not since Edwards doesn't need a meal ticket the way McCain did.

Both are gross, disgusting, dishonorable men. At least our party lucked out unlike the Republicans. I still can't believe they chose McCain.

16. I wish Nancy Reagan would be truthful about her feelings for McCain...
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:35 PM by polichick
The Reagans stepped in and helped the first Mrs. McCain and her kids when she was dumped. Sad that Nancy offered a tepid endorsement, rather than outing the creep. It would be great if she and Ronnie Jr. came out with a joint statement, and endorsed Obama.

she has her own money.

But since she knew about the affair since 2006 it seems that she'll be staying with him.

23. It'd help if Edwards made the comparison
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:44 PM by seasat
This interview is going to get a lot of media attention. They love a sex scandal. I imagine Edwards will get a question like, "How do you think this will affect your political future?" An excellent response will be that, "The public has forgiven people for their past mistakes. Just look at John McCain, he cheated with several women on his first wife before leaving her for his current wealthy wife." The media would jump all over that line comparing the two.

26. Same with lobbyists throwing themselves at you...
If you cave to the women, you're likely to cave to the lobbyists too.

It demonstrates a lack of discipline and integrity. Such people need to be weeded out of American politics.

I write this as I hear my first Republican pundit stick his toe in this very cesspool (as a Dem strategist stays mum).

Dems should fire a vaguely-worded warning shot to this effect.
