Obama will NEVER win Michigan (O-47-M-40)
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:31 PM by Wolsh
Remember when that was the mantra, that the party had sent MI to the red side of the world? Glad that ended up being false.

Barack Obama still holds a solid 47% to 40% lead over John McCain in the key battleground state of Michigan, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters there.

1. Yes he will.
Here in East Lansing, I've seen 50-60 Obama signs/bumper stickers. I've seen 1, count them, 1 McCain sticker.

13. Oh, I know.
I knew what your point was, but you neglected to add a sarcasm tag. I figured some of the newbies or worriers might take you headline as gospel.

Just wanted to add an "on the ground" sort of perspective.

:hi:

4. BHO's peeps should run a DHL-based ad in MI
OH and other places that have been hit so hard by deindustrialization. Let Grampy try to weasel out of that little white truth.

5. Don't get too over confident...it is going to be a fight..
At the risk of oversimplifying--the enlightened downstate urban vote has to overwhelm the sizable racist-redneck vote in other areas of the state. We have to get the vote out. But if we get the vote out--yes, we'll win.

7. That looks good - it's probably a plus that Obama wants to...
...help auto makers retool for the next generation of cars. Toyota is opening a big new plant in Michigan, and our companies have to get back in the game!

8. Obama has an actual plan that has the potential to transform
the U.S. auto industry, as opposed to Grampa's incoherent mumblings on the same topic...

Maybe some people really ARE paying attention!

11. It's a good sounding plan...but I live here and let me tell you----

A lot of us think McCain was closer to the truth when he said the jobs aren't coming back. McCain was just an asshole for saying it. The current mentality here is very much one of "Will the last person leaving Michigan please turn out the lights?"

And considering the rampant pessimism and despair--Obama will have to be careful how he deals with the state.

9. With leaners, its only a 4-point lead though. MI is not safe for Obama yet.
The RCP average of all recent Michigan polls has it at about 3 points.

14. woo hoo Michigan there is hope!
I have friends in Michigan who don't know about Obama's ideas for generating new economies there. So, as I wrote in another thread that I would do, I called Obama's campaign and they directed me to his speech and written policies for the economic hardship facing Michigan.

If anyone can put these into an email and send it to Michiganders, please do so! I sent the links to my friends and asked them to share them with the Oakland County Board of Realtors, of which they are members. They have a right to know that one candidate actually gives a hoot and has a plan. The economy in Michigan is just draw-droppingly sad and devastating. Help can't come fast enough.
