Hillary Clinton's slur unearthed to hurt Obama
In the new ad released by the Republicans, Clinton is shown saying: "I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House and Senator Obama has a speech that he gave in 2002."

13. There is no quote. Obama never called Clinton a 'racist'.
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 05:06 PM by elkston
Furthermore,

Hillary Clinton did NOT have to pat McCain on the back to bolster her inexperience argument. She simply had to make the case that SHE was ready and Obama was not. No, she took it to the next level and gave ammunition to the other side. Essentially she was saying, "You don't belong in this race. We do."

"I have the experience and Barack has a speech."

Potent, but fair. And all she had to say.

20. No, any Repub nominee would reuse Hillary's positive for McCain, negative against Obama
It stands to reason that any Republican nominee would be sending Hillary thank you notes for her endorsement, and for her trashing of the Dem opponent. Hillary couldn't have done a better job of laying the groundwork for McCain's team - as could only have been expected, her hiring Charlie Black's colleague to run her campaign. No wonder she endorsed McCain while doing his dirty work!

However, it's a flat out lie that Obama called Hillary Clinton a racist. If you want to defend dirty politics by repeating lies like that, perhaps it'd be better if you did so at a forum where people aren't so aware of the facts.

that's what happened. defensible or not, those kind of statements against another Democrat worked against her more than for her.

i nearly voted for her for Super Tuesday. probably lots of Democrats changed their minds just as i did.

and the rest is history.

"Not a muslim to my knowledge," "Jesse Jackson won SC twice," "Obama has a speech he made in 2002..." and on, and on.

Clinton campaigned negatively. Obama didn't. Your "memory" of the primaries is entirely slanted to support your candidate.

22. Taking the GOP bait?
Come on, you're too smart to fall for that old trick, aren't you?

Its amazing. Sometimes it seems as though Obama supporters had never experienced an election before. I know that's not the case and that we're all too smart and experienced to fall for those tired old tricks.

If it helps, when these things happen, imagine the shoe being on the other foot. Imagine Clinton as the winner and the GOP unearthing Obama rumors and quotes from the primary. Imagine Obama being out on the trail campaigning for Clinton and getting trashed by fellow Dems for doing it.

Seems rather obvious when you think of it that way.

She made that comment and went on to make more bizarre statements; McCain's guttersnipe campaign is only doing what they know best. Really, there's no excuse for some of the things that she said during the primaries but what can you do? She felt that way and has the right to do so; I just hope she doesn't get upset that McCain turns around and uses those same words for his own advantage.

She made a comment that now causes Obama's campaign to take time out of their packed schedules to address; that kind of attack from a fellow party member is not only uncalled for but fair game to be used later by your opponents. I'm sure you've noticed there are no threads rehashing the bashing that Obama did against Hillary during the primary. These kinds of threads serve no purpose except to help get Republicans elected. 37. We wiull see more and more of her "campaign taunts" as the days roll on
That's the ONE thing I admired about Reagan, in an odd way..
His 11th commandment did a lot of "good" for their party for a couple of decades, and many many elections..

When same-party candidates rip each other apart in the primaries, the "winner" comes out wounded, just in time for the BIG fight, and the other party has loads of snippets to use against them, and since those words were said by his/her own fellow party-members, it's MORE devastating. When it's said to be "just what people say in the heat of the primary battle", it makes us look even worse.. "say anything to get elected" comes to mind..

Obama bit his tongue, and never said anything hurtful or vicious about any competitor, and was instantly tagged as "weak-timid-Bambi"... If he had been mean right back, he would have been portrayed at "angry black man".. He had no choice but to run a clean campaign in the middle of a mud-wallow by his main competitor in the primary.. It ended up helping him , but now it's all coming back..all the same shit, only it's recycled by the republicans..

Here's hoping he can withstand it all again.. so far so good..

43. And if she had won we'd have Obama in repuke ads calling her untrustworthy and not being straight
with the American people, and everybody here knows it.

But don't let that stop the hate from the hope crowd.

Obama would have never said that! Hillary crossed the line with that comment, and you know that!

53. Nah, just that Hillary's a liar and that America can't tust her. C'mon.
Both comments, and either would have been used depending on who became the nominee, were said in the heat of a hard fought campaign. We all know these things.

91. No, it's not the same thing. Everyone *expects* candidates to knock each other
on their personal shortcomings. The opposition doesn't bother using the inter-party infighting, because they just do the same thing themselves.

The "gift" the GOP got from Hillary Clinton is that she said their own guy was better for the job than her fellow Democrat. She crossed a big line that should never have been crossed. I've never seen anyone else go there as long as I've followed campaigns, and it should cost her the VP slot.

NOT dropping out sooner. She was KILLING the Democrats. And I feel she, on some level, KNEW that.

71. Oh, so this is what vindication feels like.
I've stated for a while now (to silence, mostly) that this is one of the reasons Obama is unlikely to choose her as his VP (that, her proven lies - Tuzla, NAFTA - and the fact that a majority of registered voters don't want her on his ticket).

Of course, this wasn't hard to foresee.

Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 10:15 PM by NYC_SKP
Check it....she crossed the line more than once, saying she and John had experience and Obama didn't.

What she did was sleaze, sleazy politics, it was low and dirty and selfish and disgusting. She only cares about her own damn self, not the party and not the country.

82. It's not like she's stupid, or it was an accident. She hand grenaded her own party.
She went way too far. She crossed the line.

It's one thing to say you're better than your opponent, quite another to say that the Republican candidate is better than your Democratic opponent.

She set a new low for Democratic Primary sleaziness.

And she said it with attitude. She's earned the appellation.

86. You're probably right, but there is such a thing as applying the term...
...in a non-sexist way.... I know men and women who "bitch" alot. I suppose it's a word nobody here on du ever uses.... :sarcasm:

So, I deleted "bitch" and put in:

What she did was sleaze, sleazy politics, it was low and dirty and selfish and disgusting. She only cares about her own damn self, not the party and not the country.

The previous word was too vague, and I didn't mean to provoke these reactions.

You're just feeding into the whole Hillary dead-ender narrative about misogyny, for one thing.

And for another thing, as a woman, I find that word totally offensive in ANY context.

Get rid of it.

It's pretty sad when he can't effectively attack Obama, so he's got to use Senator Clinton in his advertisements.

And it's easy to copy and paste Democrats praising McCain and attacking Obama in your advertisement. So fucking what?

And we can thank HRC, Ickes, McAuliffe, etc. for that, too. Clinton and her team in its desperation, in its kitchen sink mode gave the opposition mucho ammo. That's why I have no respect for any of them.

Stop it!

Fock Hill and Bill and John and anyone not onboard as well Any ONE, any THEY or any THING that detracts from getting Obama (perceived or not) into the WH. The lot of them should be tased then pushed under the Obama bus with the words "Best viewed from the rear view window" tattooed on their asses as we march our way to a Victory in '08.

Focus peeps, Focus!

Recognize the bullshit, debunk it, complain about it to the appropriate waste management facility, spread the truth and then keep it moving.

There will be plenty of sink holes we have to find our way across but we can't get across if we keep falling in them.

104. Time for her and Obama to address this head on
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 10:16 AM by GoesTo11
The quote is out there. Hillary should make a statement like:

"Now that the heat of the campaign is over, and I have read Barack's speeches, spoken with him, and followed closely everything he has done as he campaigns. It is clear that he has the experience, the wisdom, the knowledge, the empathy and the judgment to be a great president and commander-in-chief. I encourage you all to take the time to understand his vision for America."

and a statement like:

"Whatever I said about McCain's readiness, I was wrong. We have seen in his campaign the kind of inconsistency, divisiveness, and
impulsiveness that would make him at best an embarrassment and at worst a disaster as a commander-in-chief.

Or, if she's in a hurry:

"What I said before? Never mind. I was just making stuff up to try to win the nomination."
