McCain is gonna pick Lieberman.
Mark my words. But don't ask me for evidence. I don't have any. Just a gut feeling. The wingnuts have nowhere else to go, & it plays to his maverick image to touch Holy Joe. The McCainstream Media will play it as proof of his maverickhood and his essential moderation. Then we're gonna end up with another superhawk VP running the country. It all makes too much crazy sense not to be true.

7. No he wont
McCain already has trust issues with the GOP base.

Choosing an "independent Democrat" wont help him.

10. Agree that Lieberman is a chance, although some of the fundies will
freak out. His social voting record is pretty good -- certainly bluer than any Republican with any chance at all for the list. Ridge and Lieberman are pro-choice so whatever McCain gains by choosing them he also loses a chunk of the fundies who will not, under any circumstances, support a pro-choice position.

If that is only 1 in 10 fundie nutbags that's 10% of an identifiable voting demographic McCain needs and can't risk if he's behind as it is.

IMO McCain's choice of Lieberman would repel at least that 10% of the fundie base, suppressing his overall totals, and would mobilize progressives to condemn the GOP ticket. I don't thik independents are especially drawn to McCain anymore. "The Mr. Maverick" delusion has been quelled by Panderol, which McCain has been taking in increasing dosages since 2000.

12. I think he really wants to pick Lieberman, but the two of them are just way too old.
Lieberman would be a home run hit to many GOP and it would certainly play well in Florida and possibly, with some independents.

BUT...

And this is a very big BUT...

The two of them together would be Two Grumpy Old Men and would really be a turn off to most Americans.

They are too old.

The Republicans are NOT going to want a VP that gives money to the DSCC.

Should the vice president become president on account of very, very, very, very oldness, the Pukes don't want to get stuck with a social liberal.

And, God willing, this person will not be tied up being someone else's choice.
